Re: Hindraf Detainee fasts in Solidarity with Jemaah Islamiah and Darul Islamiah Detainees for abolishment of ISA During Month of Ramadan.

This is the fourth week in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan that Hindraf legal adviser P. Uthayakumar who is currently in detention without trial in an open court of law and held at the Kemunting Taiping, Kemta Prison is fasting in solidarity with fellow Jemaah Islamiah (JI) and Darul Islamiah (DI) detainees for the abolishment of the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA). P. Uthayakumar hopes Prime Minister Badawi would urgently release all ISA detainees especially for the Jemaah Islamiah detainees, some of whom have been detained for seven years now on the occasion of this Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

At Kemta Prison there has been zero racial or inter religious conflicts of any kind among the Chinese, Indian and Malay Muslims. Hindu P. Uthayakumar and two other Chinese Buddhists who are fasting on the occasion of the Ramadan month are invited to join the Malay Muslims detainees during the breaking of the fast. This unity coexistence and racial and religious harmony is because of the equality before the law (Article 8 of the Federal Constitution) and there are no special privileges for any detainee irrespective of race and religion and no detainee asserts supremacy or the social contract.

In fact the 49 UMNO controlled BBC members who were sent to Taiwan for a working visit should instead have come and stayed in Kemta Prison to learn appreciate and implement true multi-racialism and multi-religionism in the works. But UMNO and the Prison authorities have denied Uthayakumar and the other two Chinese detainees who were fasting the right to buy special food and cakes which has been accorded to the Muslims detainees. They are trying to break solidarity between the Muslims and the non- Muslim detainees.

In fact many JI and DI members support Hindraf’s 18 point demands to Prime Minister Badawi dated 12/08/2007 and struggle for equality and equal opportunities especially for Indians who have for the last 51 years been excluded from the mainstream development. One JI member specifically said that while the government gave him and his siblings’ scholarships to study overseas and who are now all professionals in the business and corporate sector and graduates, and his Indian neighbours in Kluang, Johor are in the same position their parents and grand parents had been living. In fact this JI member in welcoming P. Uthayakumar on their first encounter with Uthayakumar in the first week in Kemta Prison was “I have been here for seven years and didn’t give up. Keep up the struggle”. This golden word has helped and has and will keep up Hindraf’s struggle for as long as it takes.

Marina and Sara visited RPK this morning to be with him on his birthday....but just for 45 minutes. Marina just called in at 2:30pm and reported that he was in better spirits. 7 books were brought to Pete but they only allowed him to have three.

His minders are going to all out to demoralise him. They told him that his appeal for signatures for his release appeared not to draw any attention. Marina told him the support of the public is encouraging and mounting.

Post 916 I have been inundated with questions that came fast and furious about Anwar missing the target despite all the hype. I have been short-tempered and abrasive in my feeble attempts to answer all queries to the point that blogger confidant Haris asked me to ease off, as I was getting on his nerves. Then I read KHOO KAY PENG'S piece. His take was admirable and I need to share this with you people who are having doubts about the imminence of a NEW MALAYSIA.People, Kay Peng.....and Gary thanks for coming to my rescue, chin lang:

Who cares if Anwar is just another Pinocchio?

Some people are too fixated with deadlines and Anwar Ibrahim. It does not matter if a change of government does not happen on 16/9, 23/9 or 1/10. It does not matter if Anwar is just another Pinocchio. Even if Anwar becomes the next prime minister, he will not be able wish away our problems instantaneously.

There is no short cut to solve our political and socio-economic problems. Instead of arguing on the dates, it is best for Malaysians to work together to set the agenda for the next prime minister and his administration.

If Anwar fails to take over government, do we abandon our desire for change? The movement for change is not about Anwar or his party alone. It is about our desire to make our country a fairer and better place to live in. Anwar as prime minister or Najib as prime minister will have to deliver the exact same results for the society. Nothing less.

We cannot ignore this momentum for change. Since the Mar 8 General Election, many more Malaysians now believe a change for the better is not something remotely impossible. Those elites who rule this country at their whims and fancies will soon have to realise that the right to govern comes with a huge responsibility to deliver goodness for the society.

We should not argue over dates. It does not matter if a change of government materialises on 16/9, 23/9 or 1/10. The reality is a change has begun and it is impossible for this momentum to be rolled back. Any coalition governing this country knows that it cannot again rest on its laurels.

Shouldn't we then work together to set the next agenda for the new administration? Surely, whoever leads the country must ensure that Malaysia flourishes on the rule of law. In the light of the current abuse of draconian law such as ISA, we should call for the repeal of all draconian laws which trample on universal human rights.

A loud signal should be sent to the next PM that we cannot tolerate a home minister like Syed Hamid Albar, who despite his legal qualification, is totally clueless about fundamental human rights. A person like him must not be given a full access to absolute discretionary power.

Next, we want to reinstate judicial review to provide a necessary check-and-balance on unlimited ministerial power. Separation of power is key to a healthy democracy. Anwar or Najib must be committed to reviewing the ministerial power.

Anwar is committed to abolishing the ISA. Is Najib willing to do the same?

A key point to the agenda is the imminent review of the New Economy Policy. This policy was introduced as a result of the outcome of the inclusive Goodwill Council. Clearly, after 38 years of its implementation, the policy has failed to close the intra-community income gap especially among the Malay-Bumiputeras.

Dr Mahathir, in one his blog posts, admitted the problem of giving contracts to a selective few because of the non-performance of Bumiputera companies. Those who are allocated equity shares tend to sell them off for quick money. By selling down, the Malay equity shareholding will forever be below the desired 30 percent level.

If the NEP is not fixed and its abuses curbed, local investors will be deterred to invest locally. A continuous outflow of funds affects domestic job creation, economic growth and industrial development.

Is Najib prepared to review the NEP which is a sacred cow of his party? Anwar has promised to abolish the NEP and replace it with his New Malaysia Agenda despite being accused of negating Malay rights. Current implementation of the NEP is detrimental to Malay rights.

After nearly 51 years of independence and hundreds of years of co-existence, the next PM should strive to unite all races in order to create a truly fair and equitable Bangsa Malaysia. Political rhetoric must be carefully managed to reduce racial frictions. Rightly, the curtain should come down on race-based politics.

Continuing to harp on Malay supremacy or the controversial social contract is not going to take this multiracial society forward. Are we not ready to move forward just because politicians claim that we are not? Malaysians should decide their own fate and not allow a bunch of self-centered politicians to do it for us. A united Malaysia is better than one which emphasises race divisions.

Now, can we agree to lose our fixation with dates and focus on the next agenda? Malaysians must show that we are dead serious about change. Most people are resistant to change including you and me. But change we must in order to build a Malaysia where everyone with the right skills, determination, talent and creativity can flourish.

Otherwise, we should blame our shallowness.

If the PM refuses to meet him and rejectS Anwar's call for emergency parliament session, then how can Anwar form the federal government by Hari Raya Aidil Fitri? So it's not Anwar's fault for not meeting the deadlines, it's the government that is still able to keep themselves in 'defense mode'.

Take this analogy: If you're very sure that you can defeat Mike Tyson in a boxing match and you challenge him for a match, how can you defeat Mike Tyson if he refuses to fight you or if he doesn't appear during the match day? In this case, you're not the liar but Mike Tyson is the coward.

SHAME, SHAME on you Pakatan Rakyat. You are doing exactly what you condemned the BN government of doing. Why is it so urgent that the Selangor Government has to decide that the temple must go and why is it so important that it has to be done during this season of Ramadan....desecrating a place of worship during this holy month. I challenge the Selangor Government to give answers.....straight answers.....no spins.....no half-baked excuses.....no passing the buck. Who gave the final word to bring down the the Sri Maha Kaliamman temple in Kampung Tasik, Jalan Baru in Ampang? Were the temple management given SUFFICIENT time to relocate if it was on illegal land? Were the temple management given opportunity to remove the statues and temple paraphenalia before the demolition crew demolished the said temple? The rakyat wants answers to these questions? Or has the BN cancer found residence in the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government. The dentist must be grinning deliriously.



I am against any demoloition of any place of worship. Even if it is built haphazardly, and even if it is built illegally this is no way to prove a point. There is always these two words: compromise and negotiation. Did the Pakatan Rakyat exhaust all options? This time I agree with Samy:

"The demolition of the temple in Padang Jawa (Selangor) just before the 2008 general election in March 8 had angered many Hindus, and this was one of the reasons the Indian voters voted against the Barisan Nasional.

"But today, you see the same situation happening in a state government that is controlled by the opposition," he said.

Besides the dentist going into orgasmic delirium, Samy would be sharpening his knives too, whilst Selangor weilds their wrecking balls. Don't come up with the stale excuse that the wrecking crew are UMNO people. Proof is all we need.

Just remember that the people voted the Pakatan Rakyat in and they have the same power to get PR out of Selangor.
