Given Googles commitment to environmental awareness and energy efficiency, we strongly support the Earth Hour campaign, and have darkened our homepage today to help spread awareness of what we hope will be a highly successful global event.
As of 27 March, over 11,900 businesses and over 200,000 individuals had indicated their intention to participate at earthhour.org.
Earth Hour 2008 will include the following asia-pacific"partner cities". Cities in Europe and the United States and Canada are committed.
1. 1.We the10 opposition Members of Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, note that two months prior to the 12th General Elections (GE) DBKL was very relax in taking actions against the hawkers, petty traders, DBKL tenants and others.
2 2. We also note that immediately after the completion of the 12th GE, resulting in the clear rejection of BN by the KL residents, DBKL swung into actions to victimize and/or punish the hawkers, petty traders and threaten to victimize and/or punish the DBKL tenants in the opposition held constituencies, for the miserable performance of BN in the GE.
3. We strongly condemn DBKL for involving itself in politics and taking such concerted actions to victimize and/or punish the hawkers, petty traders and DBKL tenants for exercising their democratic rights in the 12th GE to elect the 10 opposition MPs from PKR,
4. We call upon the Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur to immediately stop the political actions in victimizing and/or punishing the hawkers, petty traders and DBKL tenants for exercising their democratic to elect the MPs of their choice.

'If you share a good idea long enough, it will eventually fall on good people.
Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average.
Leaders, whether in the family, in business, in government, or in education, must not allow themselves to mistake intentions for accomplishments.
Leaders must learn to discipline their disappointments. It is not what happens to us, it is what we choose to do about what happens that makes the difference in how our lives turn out.
Learn to help people with more than just their jobs; help them with their lives.
In leadership we teach: Don't send your ducks to eagle school because it won't help'.Tak Nak star: Peace to all Malaysians,
In our recent meeting with the Regional editor and staff of STAR PUBLICATION Penang, I discovered that, it`s really a waste of our money and time supporting this kind of publication and making them rich day by day. They Do not have a stand and are playing games in the tune of the people. They are not committed to journalism and does not have the quality of being a press company. They admitted that they are PRO GOVERNMENT.
They have also denied in not giving a fair and equal coverage to all parties in the General Election. The Regional editor Anna cheah said that, We have given our best and had given a fair and equal coverage to all contesting parties. It was clear that she was defending her company. They are not even willing to admit their mistake. How can we expect an apology from this guys.
They continued saying that, any sensitive report or political report which is unsafe to be publish, will be first send to kl to the big bosses for editing and for advice on whether or not to publish the report.. Now, who are the big bosses !!!!!!! MCA Guys..... And we have seen by our own eyes, the results of the report about the opposition during the GE 08.. Full of BULLSHIT and negative views of the opposition. And yet, they still have the pride to say, We are not wrong. It is a big shame and humiliation for the journalism career !
They even said that, their license are given on a yearly basis. And that there are many rules to be followed. So, does that mean that they will be in favor for the government even if right or wrong. And if they publish a true negative report on BN and a true positive report on the opposition will their license be in trouble. Let me tell you guys, this company is not afraid of their license being revoked, they can get it back like in the past. I think it is the boss whom belongs to MCA whom chooses to be a tool of barisan nasional and reject press freedom, trying to fool the readers in to what he wants the people to read. He is trying to give a good impression to BN that he`s doing his part for the government and standing up for them, hoping to get a minister post in the cabinet in years time i think !
Do we want to be the reason of this companies success. Do we want this kind of people to succeed in their plans.
We have change our government, Let us change our paper too!!!!! Stop making them rich.

WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN OR WE JUST DON'T WANT TO LEARN!
How many roads must a man walk down
before you call him a man?
Yes, and how many seas must the white dove sail
before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannon balls fly
before they're forever banned?
Chorus: The answer my friend is blowing in the wind;
The answer is blowing in the wind.
How many times must a man look up
before he can see the sky?
Yes, and how many ears must one man have
before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take till he he knows
that too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind;
The answer is blowing in the wind.
How many years can a mountain exist
before it is washed to the sea?
Yes, and how many years can some people exist
before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
pretending that he just doesn't see?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind;
The answer is blowing in the wind.
ASIDE: I thanked Hantu for this piece and this was the reply: we live in interesting times darling, and u bloggers helped make it that way.
Dear Uncle Zorro,
Please start a new campaign:
That henceforth from today onwards, all bloggers will push the MSM to refer to all Malaysian as Malaysians and not Malays, Chinese, Indians...lets start with Malaysiakini....show them how it can be done. Deduct points for common sense when they use race to classify, expose them for their pitiful shallow thinking. Let it be shameful to classify by race. That way soon we can truly have a multi racial Malaysia Malaysians can be proud of. I hope you can get this going. Thank you for all your previous efforts!

Several mainstream papers asked me to write a regular popular arts column last year. For all sorts of reasons, I was wasn’t able to accept and still have not done so to date. Nonetheless, in the course of our discussions, many conversations about the state of Malaysia’s media arose. In one of them, I argued that the country’s mainstream papers will be marginalised within a decade…
“Why?”, they asked.
“Because you are out of touch with the emerging Malaysian public and your credibility is shot”.
For example, I know few Malaysians of college age who take the mainstream press seriously. Other than obvious political bias, senior members of press have also completely lost touch with changes in popular culture. Thus, while the grass roots have been characterized by the empowerment of legitimate homegrown artistic voices in the last half decade, the mainstream media remained ignorant of this groundswell and continue to pander to foreign acts on their last pay day. Many of our musicians, for example, have made in-roads into regional markets - a fact that few have reported. Likewise, our indie filmmakers have swept awards in top film festivals throughout the world while senior editors veto coverage merely with an ill-judged dismissal: ‘the public is not interested’.
Herein lies the problem. However you look at it, these are community papers, read by members of the community. If they only serve the interest of the elite [in whatever field] and lose sight of their fundamental role as forums to nurture and accommodate the multifarious voices of the community, then they lose legitimacy over time. Fact is, the popular media in this country has in the last decade [or more] over-covered the centre and neglected the fringe - due in part to an over-emphasis on its commercial priorities and at the expense of its social function as a community forum. It is thus when the cultural fringe eases into the center over time, as it has done and will increasingly do, these media look out-of-touch and irrelevant. In an age when our kids are logging onto Myspace to check out the latest buzz on some homegrown band after they’re done on Pitchfork, arts editors who cannot keep up do not have credibility - let alone those whose idea of a good time is a pub cover version of ‘Hotel California’, done however note-perfectly.
Thus, in all areas of their coverage [not just politics], our media players need serious re-thinking. This includes advertisers. The top, as they say, reflects the bottom.
Sunday 23 March: Series 4 (Abdul Rahman says:)
From a pure consumers point of view, its simple really. Stay relevant or die.
Poor, biased and inaccurate content make most of our local dailies irrelevant. We need the news to make important life and business decisions. We need it to keep us up-to-date with local and world affairs so that we can remain an informed and well educated society.
If the dailies can not provide us with this then we should find alternatives.
Being exposed to advertising has always been seen as a the price we pay for the news or entertainment. Advertising also serves to keep consumers informed about goods and services available to them. In many ways, the advertisement itself is content for dailies. We may see ourselves picking up the papers to check out the banking ads as we are making a decision to take-on a home loan. However, there are many ways that advertisers can communicate with its consumers.
As readership for the dailies fall, surely the use of other mediums of communication will rise. Mediums such as Direct Mailers, various online mediums and sms alerts will fill in the gap.
Ad agencies won’t loose out. We just have to look for more effective and efficient media vehicles. Even agencies that generate its main income from media commissionables may soon find new models for profits.

Found this really great article on ADOI’s blog. A must-read for those who spend thousands and millions on ads: You’re wasting your money on media that is becoming more and more irrelevant day by day.
I’ve been saying this to our clients for the longest time: Spend your money where your audience is. And if the recent elections are anything to go by, hardly anybody believes what they see or hear in our traditional media anymore.
Spending 95% of your budget on TV and newspaper ads that give you no measurable results?

Congress Votes to Outsource Presidency
1, 2008
Mr. Bush was informed by e-mail this morning of his termination. Preparations for the job move have been underway for some time.
Gurvinder Bob Singh of Indus Teleservices,
It is believed that Mr. Singh will be able to handle his job responsibilities without a support staff. Due to the time difference between the
A Congressional spokesperson noted that while Mr. Singh may not be fully aware of all the issues involved in the office of President, this should not be a problem as President Bush had never been familiar with the issues either.
Mr. Singh will rely upon a script tree that will enable him to respond effectively to most topics of concern. Using these canned responses, he can address common concerns without having to understand the underlying issue at all. "We know these scripting tools work," stated the spokesperson. "President Bush has used them successfully for years, with the result that some people actually thought he knew what he was talking about."
Bush will receive health coverage, expenses, and salary until his final day of employment. Following a two-week waiting period, he will be eligible for $140 a week unemployment for 26 weeks. Unfortunately he will not be eligible for Medicaid, as his unemployment benefits will exceed the allowed limit.
Mr. Bush has been provided with the outplacement services of Manpower, Inc. to help him write a resume and prepare for his upcoming job transition. According to Manpower, Mr. Bush may have difficulties in securing a new position due to a lack of any successful work experience during his lifetime. A greeter position at Wal-Mart was suggested due to Bush's extensive experience at shaking hands, as well as his special smile.

The elections prove a very critical point. Return to basics.
Quoting Henry Tan “Content is not necessarily king, distribution is king and engagement is the ultimate”. BN manage to maintained their simple majority simply because of mass reach of conventional media especially in rural areas. The Opposition could have probably won the elections had they not been denied the access to mass media. To counter that effect, the opposition ENGAGED the public via any means necessary effectively from online blogs to door to door visits and “ceramahs” fully utilizing powerful speakers like Anwar Ibrahim. Hence, this really proves how media planning has to evolve to communications channel planning - leveraging on touch points. Communications channel planning must be brought to the fore and not some after thought.
Understand your consumers! BN had misread the “rakyat” and therefore paid dearly. A clear lesson is getting the right information. Research is no longer calling up acquaintances and asking them what they think. Proper research via the correct channels is required to provide an accurate picture of any political and market situation. All parties (either client, media, creative, PR, research, etc) involved then have to really sit together to piece out REAL consumer insights. The opposition got this right by opening up to the grouses of the “rakyat”. It was BN’s development campaign vs the opposition’s change campaign. Cheesy and corny patriotic TVCs and testimonials versus a really witty sarcastic humorous online clip. A clear David vs Goliath example. By understanding your consumers then the right communication via the right channels within the right context could be achieve.
This would also mean that the mass media would have to seriously evolve too and see the people they are reaching as real consumers with real issues and needs. If not, consumers will move towards other media distribution points ie online. Hence, the shift of control over information distribution. These developments would be indeed interesting to observe especially how mainstream media will evolve in the content distribution business.
With all that said, it would mean advertisers must start seeing agencies as business partners and not just a another service provider. Agencies would have to make a really big leap of faith to explore the unknown and provide results oriented solutions by investing into research, training and optimizing. The industry would have to evolve by putting the consumer to the fore. Sometimes its not what is being said but more of what isn’t said.
As DAP puts is, “Change it” and not be be as the Malay saying goes “Katak di bawah tempurung” (Frog under the coconut shell). The elections have very important lessons which the BN government will not take for granted come the next election but to the industry as a whole.
