THIS was the title of HartalMSM latest piece: Star - the paper that needs spectacles
Probably Hartal MSM was softening the impending blow that new MCA chief was rumored to be mulling over....who will take over from Wong! If testicles is not politically correct, marbles would be idiomatically correct, no?
Anyway Star today humored its readers with a STAGED SPECTACLE
Priceless memorabilia: Tan holding up the teacup which was used by Najib at his shop in Kuala Kubu Baru yesterday. Behind him is the chair that Najib sat on during his visit to the coffeeshop.
KUALA KUBU BARU: Coffeeshop owner Tan Sew Sewan, thrilled by the Prime Minister’s visit here last Saturday, will “preserve” the cup, plate, fork, spoon and chair used by him.
The 60-year-old grandfather said a souvenir shop was making a glass showcase to store the cutlery for display at his shop.
Tan said no one would be allowed to sit on the chair “as I am going to wrap it and display it in my coffeeshop.”
“This shop has been in business for over 70 years and it is hard to believe that the Prime Minister actually came here for tea,” he said.
So it was the MCA who told Tan that Najib was coming. And MCA brought along a special chair(and halal cutlery/cup too?). Notice the ordinary red plastic chairs in the background. 1Malaysia, yah? His special, ours onery! The way I see it, Tan is exceptionally naive. He did not avail himself of BN pre-by election munificence! The MCA would have contracted Asian Food Channel (astro703) Makeover crew and given Sun Sun Mun Cheong Coffeeshop a facelift befitting the PM. Lost chance eh Mr. Tan? By the way, why are you wrapping up the chair? Did the PM say that he is not visiting anymore? Dang, little things delight little minds I read somewhere. Hantu whispered that MCA will get a chair for Jibby to sit on IF and when he gets an audience with Obama. Wallaweh, MCA now chairMEN!
Anyway the Whisperer and I will try his Hailam mee come Tuesday and if his fare is not as good as SB Loy, I will tell Grandpa Tan that his is Lowlam.
I posed this question last night at the fishing hole: What's RM100 to you?
The answers I got ranged from the sublime to the ludicrous, depending on the degree of sobriety:
Borrow RM100 from a pessimist -- they don't expect it back.
For that Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
In giving me an answer, this guy asked instead: Q. Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, an honest lawyer and an old drunk are walking down the street together when they simultaneously spot a hundred ringgit bill. Who gets it? A. The old drunk, of course; the other three are mythical creatures.
Can kow-tim at drink n drive road block.
That's what I owe my great grandmother 6 years ago. Just remembered that. Thanks for bring up this RM100. Sufficient for a good traditional massage minus fringe benefits.
A full tank of gas.
One night's beer if Gus dont up the price.
WHY DID I POSE THIS QUESTION?
Earlier, Hantu was describing to me what he witnessed recently in Batu Maung, Penang. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was distributing RM100 to senior citizens, something never done before. These money were generated thru savings, like economy class travel etc. Before the distribution YB Malik and Guan Eng promised that this will be an annual affair besides the RM1000 to every student who qualifies for University and RM2000 for funeral expenses when a parent passes on.
What happened after the ceremony was what moved Hantu. An indian lady holding the hand of her mother approached Lim and Malik to once more say thank you to the YBs. This is what she said:
“She never received anything free in her life. She cried because she was so happy to get a free gift of RM100.”
The elderly recipient could not look at her benefactors, Malik and Lim. She looked away with eyes that must have been dabbed because of the tears shed a while ago.
At the Penang Sports Club, the conversation over drinks revolved around public affairs and presently somebody brings up the topic of the RM100 fairaward to warga emas, publicized in stories in newspapers.
“Well, I could have registered to receive the money and collected the voucher to claim the sum and donated it to charity,” said one member.
“The trouble is if I were to line up for the collection and somebody takes a picture of me and it appears in the press, that would be embarrassing,” said the same member.
Well, one person’s probable embarrassment could be
ON 12 January 2010 I put up a posting inviting this loquacious pseudo Malay to debate with Art Harun of Articulation. 12 April, next Tuesday would be 4 months since he shied away from this invitation. There were rumors that he was taken ill. We respect that. Never make fun of a man when he is "down".
Well, he must be well now as he come out full throttle yesterday at some BN Convention on how to take back Selangor.OK Tea ooppsss TEEboy here is an ideal opportunity to get visibility and all the mileage you may need.....I can arrange for KKB stadium for the event.
Oh doctor, here is a backup plan....in case you will not appear personally.....you can bring any UMNO ventriloquist.....yes any....even Ibrahim Ali, Zahrain or Zul Nordin.
I've called you here to discuss some issues like this bald sissy
Yes, it is Hantu's day, at my expense! Dang! Methinks the skinny-dip at Magick River was not long enough. Sometime early next week, and I have invited d'Nightcaller.
Last week at Sid's after endless "one for the road" Guiness Draft, Hantu A (A not as in A1 as he claims that this numerical 1 has been prostituted no end....for Hantu, A is for Archimedes the Owl) told me of the possibility of Zahrain and Zul Nordin escorting Jibby to US Congress. I said Zahrain maybe but not Zul as he had already accompanied Nazri to the closed door meeting in Washington. "Everything comes in pairs lah....Wee Choo Keong went to UN and Washington what?" he assured me. I told him that Nibong Tebal Teo should get a chance to walk in the shadow of the big Mama or the other guy Moshien (I dont even remember this yahoo). Hantu was silent over Teo but dismissed the Moshien guy whom he considers too dumb, even to follow the group. I said: "OK a bet. I say Zahrain and Teo." Hantu countered, "Zahrain and Zul, Guiness till I drop with Pig In Blanket in between and if I am not cruel, a ploughman that you can share." I wanted to play safe and suggested another bet, "Maybe Zahrain and Ibrahim Ali." Hantu eyeballed me and said: "Jibby is not mad yet and you are pissed!" First bet holds.
People, I lost the BET and he insisted I post this: (full volume and big screen please, he insisted!) Ok, I lose honorably.....here it is, go ahead and laugh....even at me. It is all right, laughing is good medicine.
YESTERDAY (Wednesday) morning, Duke and I headed towards Hulu Selangor, a Selangor District three times the size of Malacca. After meeting with the relevant PR aides who were already on the ground, we skinny-dipped in the Magick River to get some good qi for the upcoming by-elections. It was a refreshingly invigorating dip and I had this feeling that I was in for a good day and some good laughs. I was right!
“When this country was formed, there was only one race. And this fact has to be respected, you have to respect us (Malays) for that,” Ridhuan Tee said in delivering a 50-page paper on how non-Malays perceive the Malay political movement, which was reduced to a 10-minute speech.
I have never come across this new phenomenon - that embracing a religion entitles you to change your race. The Election Commission can change your race and sex, but this cocktip claims he is now a Malay and yet keeps his Tee!!!! Tee off then into the fart chamber!
