My maternal grandparents were also like him chinese muslims. I can never understand how people like him can swallow the insults by the UMNO people. Well I used to respect him, but now not anymore. How could he think that there's only one race when the country was formed? Did he forget the Orang Asli, Iban, Kadazan, the seranis in Malacca and etc2? I have few friends who are Chinese ( or maybe half Chinese - hint ) but has become Malay.
And a lot of Chinese & Indian mix end up becoming Malay in their lifestyle.
I know few half Irish who had become very Malay.

I have always felt that the main problem with this country is that we relate a Race with a Religion. Nowhere else have I come across where someone of a particular race must be the same religion. Hence the problems that we have with the Malay muslims in Malaysia......they claim that they are muslims but yet indulge in corruption, alcoholism, adultaries etc. This is not Islam! They are Malaynizing the Islam but not Islamizing the Malays! Not even the Arabs themselves dare declare they are arab therefore they are muslims.
I'm a Malay by default & married to a chinese by default. Till now she still a Chinese/Tionghua as her race. I believe you can convert into Muslim or whatever religion but cannot convert into Malay or whatever race....
