That statement kind of enscapulates the tone of the speeches delivered tonight by Dr Hatta, Dr Lee Boon Chai and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Sungei Tinggi tonight. Also true to my guess, they defied the ban on topics deemed sensitive and inevitably detrimental to security of the country. Has this country come to that tipping point into absurdity or just plain stupidity when we cannot point fingers or verbalise or question misdeedsand missteps of elected leaders. Damn it we are not in North Korea are we? If the Sultan is aware of this I am sure he would give a big chunck of his regal and legal mind to the ban-master for directing undue and unnecessary attention to the royals. Already the Police Inspector General is shifting the blame for such injunctions on his OCPDs.

Since we are on the subject of our Royal Police Force, they are getting a real royal reception in Bukit Gantang....Peaceful Taiping have never seen so many coppers just loitering around in their Markas. What's with the water cannon trucks and your weapons of mass suppression? This is TAIPING, for God's sake! This is not Chow Kit where the police is relocated because Chow Kit is a bad area and a bad influence on young clean mata mata, so postulated by the dickhead....who else? When we were in Kuala Sepatang on Monday, I watched 28 traffic cops riding in single file along the main road, either to impress or to suppress any unpatriotic urge the citizenry might have. It was comical, them riding around Port Weld. If the message they tried to convey was their way of saying "Thank you, your tax money bought us these spanking new bikes" then I'd say ride on....go to every town and thank the people. That reminds me. I just got an sms from Karen that my road tax has lapsed for three months......dang, I am definitely getting old and forgetful. Must attend to this soonest after 8 April. Must get Anwar to pay the road tax, since I am alleged to be inspired and paid by him. Will somebody please give me a gentle reminder....after the 8th that is.

CHUAN, Malaysian, now moonlighting as househusband in Bangkok, ex-Dunlop tech manager, former Georgian, wanted very badly to help out in the by-elections. He drove into Taiping a few hours after Duke. Duke, of course, was here earlier but had to return to KL Sunday night. He sms me that he would be in Taiping on Tuesday because he did not trust me being alone. How lah to go astray when you have friends like that?

After breakfast, Chuan drove Duke and I to Bukit Selambau. Of course BS will go down in history for the wrong reasons. 13 Independent Candidates want to vie for this one seat. This has set me wondering what these clowns are after.....they belong to no political parties or were discards from some party and now they want to stake a claim....for what? I am here in BS to see what is special about this town that 13 individuals put in some RM8000 to appear in the World's Book of Records. We drove into Sungei Patani, now bedecked with BN and PAS/PKR election accoutrements.


But one sight touched me. In all the by-elections that I was involved in PAS presence was always very significant. This group from Kelantan's Gua Musang set up their own service centre to help out. You can always expect that of PAS.

When we arrived at the PKR Op centre in Taman Desar Marwar in Bedong, a press conference was in progress. YB Tian Chua, Member of Parliament for BATU, is here to give all his expertise to young Manikumar, PKR's candidate for Bukit Selambau.

After the PC, I had the occasion to share a few moments with Mani. His handshake was firm. I like that, but as he spoke I knew that he was tense. I am aware of what he is up against.....not the opposition but his own people, currently fractured and divided.

But YB Tian Chua, brushed that aside and gave the assurance that the perceived problem can and will be contained. It would have been a shoo-in for young Mani, but those spoilers are out to make some waves. I just hope that good sense will prevail and the people will put their trust in Manikumar.

Kak Wan paid a brief visit to the centre together with some of her lady supporters. Chuan keeps them company and we found out that these three ladies were veterans of the Reformasi Movement in the early 90's......all tear-gassed and water-cannoned. And they continue to ride the wave of the Reformasi Movement. Syabas Mem.

Top draw of tonight's ceramah was of course CM YB Lim Guan Eng. In his easy-going style he opened by asking the audience "How are you people". He asked this question four times, each time questioning louder. The audience crescendoed thier answer "Good." At that Guan Eng chided them, " How can you people feel good, when the BN robbed you of your elected government." He challenged the audience to make the necessary change.
YB Chong Eng, MP for Bukit Mertajam, whom we met earlier over dinner at Kuala Sepatang, was her usual combative self. Her main trust was urging the voters to put Nizar as Member of Parliament. She reminded the audience not to been fooled by UMNO's grand plans to reform.

I hope young Andrew, also a native of Taiping did not pluck his sources from the proverbial sky. I have no cache of sources so I have to do it Red Indian style.....put my ear to the ground and read what I hear. What I hear is that the punters have started with a PAS win by 5000. Duke the Whisperer Lone Wolf, who just drove up to Taiping has put his money on 6500.

Malaysiakini has given glowing reports of huge crowds at BN rallies as opposed to discouraging numbers at PAS rallies. I was not there so I wont want to comment on that. If that is so it is good for Backdoor Zambri. He needs the encouragement, poor chap, considering the collosal reception that Nizar amassed on Nomination Day. The hokkiens have this saying "pang chiew tampuk" to the weaker opponent.....give some slack before clobbering.

Sources, not mine, are saying that the Malays seems like the king-maker in Bukit Gantang. I have been putting my ear to the ground (dang....it has been burning my ears because there has been NO RAIN in Taiping the past 2 days.) the Malays are still fuming about the two traitors. This guy in Changkat Jering sums the sentiment of the Malays. He says of the turncoat of Chankat Jering Osman:
“We voted him in because of the party, not because it was him. Must teach him a lesson,” the man explained.
