Exactly 18 years ago, I decided to pack up my family and move over to Sydney, Australia. It was very tough at first because starting over for a 40 year old Engineer with a family of 3 was no walk in the park. I remember renting a 2 bedroom apartment. Money was tight. I took the decision to migrate because I dont want my kids who was born in Malaysia be labelled a 'kaum pendatang' just like their old man. In short, I saw no future in Malaysia with its race politics and UMNO's threats of another May13 every now and then.
Well, today I am glad I took the bold decision to relocate. I am now an Australian as I gave up my Msian citizenship years ago and now live in a very spacious house in a nice suburb just 30 minutes away from Sydney business district. The quality of life is way better than Malaysia. Crime is not rampant. The government is afraid of the people. There are no little Napoleans. The environment is clean, blue skies all the way. My kids get to enjoy the best education for a nominal fee.
I am back in Malaysia for a holiday. And it is depressing to see the state of the nation. Reading the papers here, I must say I am truly glad I took the decision to leave.
I enjoy the food as it is very cheap especially when you earn Aussie dollar.
