The police have rejected the application for a permit to hold a candlelight vigil at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday, said organiser Abolish ISA Movement (GMI) today.
However, GMI has vowed to proceed with their the event despite that it would be declared as an illegal gathering by the police.
GMI chairperson Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said that they have “given the government a chance” to allow them to exercise their constitutional rights but have again been frustrated.
“We have exhausted the proper avenue to acquire approval from the authorities to hold this peaceful gathering but they have insulted us. We will proceed (with the gathering),” said Syed Ibrahim at a press conference held at the Chinese Assembly Hall today.
Yes, Hishammuddin Hussein, "Someone planned (the) recent rallies and street demos" (The Star,
BUT YEO CHEE WENG SAYS "GOOD TRY, BUT YOU ARE WRONG."
Yeo Chee Weng in Malaysiakini commented on this Star report:
It is very fine for the Umno Youth chief to lament “It’s very easy for one party to address its own constituents, to address only one race and promise the world to them, but when you ask them to make a stand which involves the future of the country which is multiracial, they are not able to so" when speaking about the opposition parties. But has everyone in Umno been doing that?
Umno leaders have been cloistered in the corridors of power for so long that they no longer recognise
that the "someone" is the struggling worker trying to stay afloat in a sea of rising prices and marginalised as a third-class citizen.
That "someone" is an angry person who sees a bleak future for his children, where lucrative jobs and contracts are parceled out by the colour of your skin and the political largesse that party sycophants receive for their loyalty.
SO TOMORROW NIGHT I CANNOT JOIN SYED IBRAHIM?
I DON'T REMEMBER ANYWHERE WHERE IT SAYS YOU CANNOT LIGHT A CANDLE OR YOU NEED TO GET A PERMIT TO LIGHT A CANDLE IN DATARAN MERDEKA.
YOU CAN SNUFF OUT MY CANDLE BUT NOT MY SPIRIT.
I WILL BE THERE!
YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN ME BECAUSE I STILL REMEMBER.........
NO ONE CAN TAKE AWAY THIS GIFT....ONLY GOD CAN.
WEREN'T WE BORN FREE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY?
WHEN INJUSTICE BECOMES LAW, RESISTANCE IS A DUTY OF EVERY FREE MALAYSIAN.
WE SHALL OVERCOME.
WE MUST OVERCOME.
I LEAVE YOU TO THINK ABOUT THIS. LISTEN TO " We Shall Overcome" in Hindi and in English.
Pete Seeger is also widely credited with popularizing the traditional song "We Shall Overcome", which was recorded by Joan Baez and many other singer-activists, and became the publicly perceived anthem of the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement soon after musicologist Guy Carawan introduced it at the founding meeting of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in 1960.

If we must then me must. Malaysia is not a signatory of the UN Declaration of Human Rights and this is all the more reason why we must.
Lest the BN govt forget what the Malaysian Constitution is all about let's light a candle to remind them just that.
God bless.
Dear Zorro , you are a very brave man,I hope there will be more people like you who will stand up to be counted on the crusade for real democracy in this country.
May God bless you.
Sorry, did I get you right that Malaysia is NOT a signatory?
