ADEL HAKIM SAYS OTHERS MORE DESERVING KIDS DESERVE SCHOLARSHIP.

We are at it agin....bitching about that obnoxious four-letter-word that has brought so much odium to this little part of planet earth called Malaysia. This word RACE is ODIUS indeed.. And it is not the common folk who uses this as their crutch. It is the self-appointed proctector of race who are rattling their saber of mass distraction again: Malsysiakini reported that the distribution of scholarships has brought the circus clowns into the ring:

UMNOYouth education bureau chief Ahmad Ikmal Ismail objected on the increased percentage of PSD scholarships given to non-bumiputera students today.Ahmad expressed concern in remarks published today over the steep increase in scholarship granted to non-bumiputera students, from 10 percent to 45 percent. He alleged that the move would make bumiputera students lose out on opportunities.

"We object to this move because it now means that 700 scholarships for bumiputera students are gone," Ahmad was quoted as saying in the Star.

Outstanding bumiputera students should not worry about being deprived of scholarships if their qualifications meet the criteria set by the Public Service Department (PSD), said MCA Youth education bureau chief Wee Ka Siong.

Wee, also the deputy education minister, said in a statement today that generally all students should not fear losing out to lesser performing candidates if they had met all the criteria set by the department.

Let's cut out this crap about "merit", "fear of losing out", "criteria", "deprived", "lose out on opportunities".....all political semantics to gain political mileage. And who is caught in the middle? Malaysian youths who want nothaing but be given a fair chance to continue their tertiary education.

Let's once and for all define who QUALIFIES for scholarships. My take, because I was a teacher:

I SAY ONLY STUDENTS WHO ARE POOR AND WHO DESERVE BECAUSE THEY DID VERY WELL IN THEIR EXAMS. Wasn't that the essence of the NEP?

EVEN IF YOU HAVE 12As BUT YOUR PARENTS CAN AFFORD TO SEND YOU TO UNIVERSITY, YOU SHOULD NOT ACCEPT IT. IT IS THE KIDS WHO COME FROM POOR FAMILIES BUT DO VERY WELL IN THEIR STUDIES DESPITE THE CONDITIONS THEY HAD TO OVERCOME TO EXCEL.....THE SCHOLARSHIPS SHOULD GO ONLY TO POOR WHO DESERVE.....that is excel.

And that was what ADEL HAKIM who turned down a scholarship said, when asked if he deserved a scholarship after scoring 10 straight As. Paraphrasing him, I could volunteer that it is the students from poor background and who have done exceptionally well should be given scholarships. THEY MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE DESERVES TO BE GIVEN THAT OPPORTUNITY. And only the PSD can do it. It is now up to the PSD to do a rethink on these two benchmarks: POOR BUT DESERVING. If the PSD cannot work out this formula, then close shop because your moral compass begs calibration or a complete overhaul. Take a cue from Adel Hakim!(such an appropriate name!)
And who is Adil Hakim. He is my friend Nuraina Samad's son, and grandson to Tan Sri Samad Ismail. Only youngsters of good breeding possess these values that are solely lacking from some rich and famous.

SO YOU HOTSHOTS FROM THE PSD WHO HAVE BEEN DISPENSING FAVORS FOR AGES, THINK OUT OF THAT OLD WORN-OUT TATTERED BOX AND JUST DO THE RIGHT THING.....UNLESS YOU SERVE POLITICAL MASTERS.
YOUR DAYS COULD BE NUMBERED!
SO JUST DO WHAT IS RIGHT.

Yes ….same old stories again.

Please be a bit brainy……Ahmad Ikmal Ismail .

If you do not really contribute to the country, how dare you think of or take the BENEFITS make by the country ?!

Don’t always having the ” take ” attitude ! Contribute more instead.

10 % , 20 % , 50 % or even more percent to be given to other Malaysians won’t hurt anyone indeed. Moreover they are all Mlaysian too.Make sure you contribute back to the country later with your utmost and sincerity.

What makes you having such narrow and selfish thinking !?
Do you really contribute ?

Think ! Think ! Think ! The Otak udang,Ahmad Ikmal Ismail !!!!!!

Contribute first …….before you think of getting some benefits from the country. Do you really contribute !!!!????

Bear in mind you little “Otak udang” ,Ahmad Ikmal .This country won’t be getting better or richer if we are all having the same thinking like you .

In the article http://sloone.wordpress.com/2008/06/02/racist-story-in-the-star/

“….Ahmad Ikmal (the Otak Udang) said this meant that scholarships were being taken from the bumiputras to be given to the non-bumiputras …….”

We are all bumiputras, difference is we have multi-color bumiputras .
We are all son of the soil from Malaysia.

Like quoted above:

“ The quota for non-bumiputras has increased from 10% to 45% but the number of total scholarships has remained at 2,000. ”

Ask yourself why the Public Service Department (PSD) unable to increase more scholarships ?
Is our country rich enough to increase scholarships ?
If not ,why our country can not produce more then ?
Do you really contribute ?

Why ? ! Why ? ! Why ? ! Think ! Think ! Think ! Shame on you !

Here is the answer for Ahmad Ikmal (the Otak Udang) and those who are having the same narrow minds like him……….

***** If you want to see this country richer and stronger !
***** Please don’t always think of getting from the country !!!!!
***** Contribute ! Contribute ! Contribute !…………

RAKYAT is Bumiputra. Bumiputra is Malaysian.

Well said Zorro.

As for PSD and still does not understand, then all the people working in PSD should resign en bloc. Stop wasting the tax payers money.

amoker said...

Agree on this Zorro. And am proud of Adel and many more who shared his sentiment.

PSD should show us the list of people who got in and their ranking. I am sure if we ask persistently, this list would become and OSA record like the highway toll agreement. UMNO, good job

Racists are turning this issue into a political potato for their own ends. These racist bastards have no conscience. They are the pits. Zorro, continue the struggle against lies, stupidity, racism, bigotry. It's time Malaysians of all races stood up and told these racist bastards: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Rich people who can afford it should not take scholarships from the poor deserving students. Ask Sharizat....?

These racist bastards will turn everything into a hot political potato for their own ends. It's time to tell these bastards: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Malaysians of all races must stand up together and send them this message. Zorro, continue the struggle agaisnt lies, bigotry, stupidity, racism. We will back all the way.

even though i m a muslim and a bumiputra, i still believe that equality for all, well thats what i was taught, imaterial of colour, race or religion. as far as scholarship is concern, why should others be deprived of this privilage, they are malaysians too, infact the country should abolish the quota system, the bumis were given ample time to be at par with the others, sadly all the privilages given to them were just wasted. and if the other race can excel academically, and do the country proud i dont see any reason why their talents or expertise should go to another country when they can contribute in their own country. i guess its about time the bumis realize that they are spoon fed, spoilt and just plain lazy. ahmad ikamal i really as learned as u are, you too have to be realistic and accept facts and not just charity by others. i may not be as learned as u are but at least i can see what is a stone and a gem.

All saying 700 bumiputra students will lose thier scholarship but why you all never think that non-bumi student were strugling for the last 50 years. All this years bumiputra students enjoyed the facility given by the GOVERMENT. Give way for other races to grow if not other races will left further behind than now and this will surely contribute to major DISASTER...

I was talking to Adel Hakim's aunt, Maria A Samad, about this last week.

True enough, Adel lives up to his name. Kak Ena must have done an excellent job raising him up.

p/s:havent seen you long time. Hope to see you next tuesday.

Uncle,
Please be careful;this issue of scholarship smells like bait by UMNO to stir up racial tension.Very similar to the event leading to operasi lallang. So tell everyone to be careful;don't swallow the bait.

A teacher is always a teacher.

Propose solutions only at teacher level or mentality.

Of course, poor deserves it. The problem is implementation is not executed correctly.

If the poor deserve it, don't tell me only 12As poor, what about 11As poor or 10As or 9 As ? Where does it stop ?

Which comes first, number of As or parent's income ? How do you equate ?

If we can spend billions on other subsidies, what is few more decade of millions for scholarship ?

The day PSD or Petronas can show that they have awarded every scholarship based on the brightest, & the poorest(regardless of color!) then FOR SURE Bernard and I will dance naked in dataran!

UMNO feels we OWE THEM the right to live, the right to exist and the right to screw us & the country anywhere they like!

i think this would be one of the reasons why many non-bumi malaysians choose to migrate out of their country. because they werenevr treated as equal malaysians in the first place

Did I ever mention qualification in terms of number of As. I proposed just two benchmarks: POOR but DESERVING....and I challenged the rightful body the PSD to come out with the implementation plan. I suggest that you digest the contents of this posting before you shoot your mouth.....engage brain before you engage mouth.

40 years ago to the year, I was told by PSD .... sorry, this scholarship is meant only for the bumis. Gov't aid was my only hope of attending university abroad then, for just 2 yrs to complete my degree. I eventually gave them the middle finger and have not stepped on M'sian soil ever since!

They're still on the same old beaten path, it seems!

Dear Zorro,

You said it LOUD & CLEAR !

1. Can someone get some statistics on the Total numbers & cost of scholarships given out to Bumis vs non-bumis in the last 10 years ?

2.What has the success rate been(within the course period) for Bumis vs non-bumis ?

3. Marketability of the courses/graduates - local / foreign trained ?

Maybe with such statistics we can see the amount of success/wastages on those candidates.

It is really a shame to see well to do Bumis including senior civil servants / politicians abusing the system at the expense of the "BRIGHT, HARDWORKING but NEEDY students" from POOR families who have been DEPRIVED of our rayaat's money.

I am associated with the Yayasan Tun Sardon & we have been sponsoring deserving "BRIGHT, HARDWORKING but NEEDY Malay, Chinese, Indian, etc students" from POOR families who have been DEPRIVED of education from primary , secondary & tertiary education for almost three decades.

Just think of the taxpayers’ wasted Billions to achieve so little & useless to the basic needs of a “Disciplined & well trained Graduate support service reserve”

Why is Singapore so successful ?

It is “Total Accountability to the nation building & its people” !

Their Taxpayers’ Dollars are used wisely in their Education programme that have worked for decades.

Their Govt. scholarships using taxpayers’ money are allocated for their National Intellectual/ Research & Development/ Professional/, etc NEEDS.

Any other personal/prefential degree courses would have to be self financed.

To control the demand/supply & not have wastages that does not meet the market employment demands of Singapore.

Please wake up you UMNOputras...
with the soon to arrive fuel hike & Financial Tsunami round the corner, every cent of this nation is precious !

It's perfectly okay to give the poor deserving ones their "financial" scholarships

But as an incentive and to spur others to excel academically we can give "merit" scholarships

Whereby due public recognitions are still given as 'non-monetary' awards if they don't need or decline the financial scholarships

Sigh.. same story year in year out.. Sigh.. anyway, I thought I read some big shot say that even the rich kids who did well deserve scholarship too! After that line, I stop reading.. Sigh. dont waste my time reading dumb ass talking.

Hmmm... Did Adel Hakim apply for the scholarship or did the PSD offer it to him just because he had 10A's and Bumi?

Crankster said...

Good ole Adel Hakim. Betcha that fella has a high self-esteem and goes on to be a very successful individual in the future.

He'll never have to yearn for the approval and admiration of the non-bumis. He'll get it naturally wherever he goes.

Success is not borne out of the good things that have come your way, but how you handled the tough moments and emerged victorious.

In other words, it's from the state of mind and I think Adel Hakim is in good shape.

I studied overseas and many of these so called government scholars spent most of their time partying and having a good time. Most of these come from well to do and connected families as well.

It's a sad state of affairs when the smart kids who work hard but can't afford an education don't get it and a rich kid doesn't pay a dime with even with crappy results.

So many people running out of topic regarding this blog post. The point was POOR BUT DESERVING!

I'm for that. And people, stop with all the racial crap comments.

Some scholarships are given becos they are ARMNO big shots...and these are not local scholarship in local u..overseas USA scholarships given to ARMNO. Ask shareeezat..she should know something.,like whether, children deserving or not, whether children poor or not.

Anonymous said...

All crap by PSD and UMNOputras. Let me tell you nothing is based on merit. I am sure Malay with 6As and parents in upper middle income also given. Are you going to be surprised if some Dato's politician son(UMNO) who has average scores also send to UK and US. PSD giving continue us twisted logic to justify because you know what you do. Fat hope of developing Malaysia . I am so angry with this injustice to our children.

People Farzain is spot on. We are aware of abuses. Lets cut out the bashing. We want changes: Poor but Deserving. Lets focus and pressure for this.

dear Uncle Zorro...

this is ADEL HAKIM... thank you for mentioning me...

but i need to clarify something...

Actually, i obtained 9A's out of 12 subjects not straight A's and out of them... 5 were A1 and 4 were A2... So not that terrer laa....

Also i did not apply for PSD / JPA and yes i turned down an offer to do Matriculation Program in Perak... that is all...

thank you...

Adel....it doesn't matter about the results....YOU GAVE YOUR PLACE TO OTHERS....which very few will do. This post was put up to recognize young people like you and a kudos to your parents. You deserve them and they you. You and like-minded like you have to take charge of this beautiful country. YOU MUST.

MakLijah said...

Adel, Zorro's right. It doesn't matter what results you got. It's about you judging yourself whilst thinking about others and giving the opportunity to others.

That, to me is a selfless and self monitoring act. It is also very mature of you.

I know many middle-aged people who are still in the 'id' (infantile) stage. That's the stage of could learn a thing or two from you.

BTW, 9As out of 12 subjects is really good.... but being humble is also just as good.. :)

Aunty KLC.
