Are the ruling regime and its leaders and the pro-Lynas guys insane?
1. The Bukit Merah rare earth plant was located inland. So it was harder for the hazardous wastes to be dispersed (by natural forces) all over the place. Lynas plant is located in a flood-prone area near Balok River and the South China Sea. In fact, the site was actually flooded during the last monsoon season ! One can imagine how floods would spread Lynas wastes stored “temporarily” onsite widely and out into the South China Sea
2. Capacity of Lynas plant is TEN TIMES that of the Bukit Merah plant. A Mainland Chinese official said that producing one ton of rare earth elements creates 2,000 tons of mine tailings (which contain radioactive thorium). An enormous amount of wastes will be produced by the Lynas plant. When the temporary onsite storage facility is filled, where are the wastes going to go?

From the photos I see you all are really enjoying yourselves. Glad you have a good time in my town. Thanks for contributing to our economy. My relative who sells Nasi Campur told me, she did a roaring business. She raked RM3000. I am sure you are one of her customers on Sunday. Come again okay but not for Lynas. It is going to be a place of employment for some of my child-hood friends.

We, Kuantan people, are scared to go there because KL people like to create trouble. We fear riots lah, Uncle.
Such a huge crowd turning up and they said that attendance was only two to three thousand. No wonder, incompetence such as this miscalculation plus mass corruption, and it is a wonder where this country is heading. To the den of the wolves to be slaughtered.
Uncle Zorro, you are right. Anon 9.15pm only saw what [s]he wanted to see. I was there, and the crowd was definitely very multiracial. I talked to a few rural makciks from Pekan, and they were very knowledgable about the lynas issue. Also, despite the govt trying to divide us, the Malays I met were ever so friendly and helpful.
OK folks ... instead of shoating, screaming and causing a ruckus, why dont we let the rakyat decide come 13GE?? We are in a democracy, right? So, come 13GE lets decide ok??
If PR wins, we throw out Lynas.
If BN wins, we proceed with Lynas.
The people to decide, ok?? Suara rakyat, suara keramat, right?

Well done Rakyat for making your way to Kuantan! This picture of the reported "3000" must be shared to those without internet access. That is the target audience we must work on.
