UPDATES

At 12.30pm today, representatives of Bersih 2.0 contacted the booking officer for Stadium Merdeka in order to make the appropriate arrangements to use the stadium for our peaceful gathering on the 9th of July.

This was done in accordance with the generous offer by the Prime Minister and following Tuesday’s audience with Tuanku DYMM SPB YDP Agong.

We were disappointed to find that the booking officer in question began providing a number of excuses as to why the booking could not be made. Among the unclear reasons provided by said officer were an “internal management sports event” and “renovations” – these despite the fact that until very recently, there were plans to hold “Konsert Raksasa 2 on the 9th of July at Stadium Merdeka.

AS I READ MY KING'S MESSAGE.

COUCHED IN REGAL PARLANCE, AS REPORTED, IS OUR KING SENDING THESE BLUNTLY SUBTLE MESSAGES:

To WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Free those you are charging under the Emergency Ordinance immediately. In no way are they waging war against ME. Do not use MY name in vain.

To the Home Minister:

By what and whose authority are you banning the Bersih movement. The movement which began in 2007 was not banned. Their reasonable aspirations are the same, so why outlaw them arbitrarily now?

To the IGP and DIGP:

I appointed you as Chief and Deputy of POLIS DI-RAJA MALAYSIA. Do not bring my name into disrepute. You are to protect the rakyat and don’t be vindictive with your “No more talk anymore!” You will get the stick if you cannot use the carrot in crisis management! Protect MY people! Don’t threaten. When you hurt MY people you hurt ME! Release all and drop all charges!

To the Prime Minister:

Assiduously and with honesty put your 1MALAYSIA to practice. Your PEOPLE FIRST is fast appearing as UMNO first. Your PERFORMANCE NOW begs elucidating! Putrajaya belongs to the people. If they want it back you have to return it to the people. UMNO put you there, not the people……YET. Until then govern and administer with prudence and wisdom instead of with slogans.

To the Election Commission Chief:

You too have been appointed by ME to ensure that elections are free, fair and clean. As the Yang diPertuan Agong I too want the same for my people. I am fully aware of gerrymandering, phantom votes, misuse of postal votes, no provisions made for Malaysians overseas to exercise their constitutional right to vote, transferring of voters without their knowledge and lastly but most importantly – be independent! You answer to me and not to the Prime Minister. Honor my NAME by undoing all the wrong-doings that have compelled my people to want to come to me because of your biasness.

To Bersih 2.0 Steering Team:

Your message has been clear of uncertainties, free from partisanship, and fair in demands. It has resonated well with the rakyat as evidenced by the prodigious support. Tread carefully, stay focused as you follow your heart, be steadfast but not vindictive, be civil, seek judicious advice and let only good sense prevail. We have faith in what you will collectively and consensually decide. Seek our King’s counsel and Honor our King!

WILL YELLOW TEES BE BANNED TOO?

"The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as the supreme commander of the federation and armed forces, and the Malay rulers as the colonels-in-chief of all the formations and units, must step in," urged renowned constitutional law expert Abdul Aziz Bari.

In light of constitutional abuses in the government crackdown against Bersih 2.0, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is legally bound to step in and safeguard the rakyat's interests, says renowned constitutional law expert Abdul Aziz Bari.

"It is not about getting political or partisan but to save the country and the constitution," contended the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) lecturer, who has researched and written extensively on the subject.

He explained that as "guardian of the constitution", the King is duty-bound to protect it, as per his oath of office.

Abdul Aziz also believes the situation presents an opportunity for the King to return the spotlight to the institution of the monarchy, especially after the 2009 Perak political crisis and his own absence in 2007.

More HERE.

The police must get their priorities right; they are there to maintain public order in order for democracy to work. As of now it is just the reverse: the police are interfering with the political rights of the citizens.

Khalid the Deputy Police Inspector General, again reiterated that those who intend to take part in the event should expect action against them under the Police Act.. HERE.

According to UMNO’S Banana Bernama, he also warned the police might detain participants under the Internal Security Act along with the possibility the organisers of the scheduled rally would be arrested, prior to July 9.

WHAT IF ANWAR BECOMES THE GOVERNMENT’S SPECIAL GUEST?

What Dato Ariff is inferring is: Has Pakatan got a credible replacement for DSAI? HERE

“That person if one is around has to step up to assume the mantle of leadership to save this country from gross mismanagement, fraudulent management, corruption, widening income disparities, reorganize institutions of governance, dispensing justice, stemming corruption and all that.

Who can that be?”

How about KU LI minus demands from his machais! Will he make his move soon?

“IS BERSIH A DIRTY WORD?”

KEN’S PIECE WAS VERY WELL RECEIVED AND I AM SURE THIS ONE FROM DOUG & HELEN WHITE WILL TOO.

Received this in the email at 1146am:

We have just finished a wonderful holiday in Malaysia. Except for a few things, like the toilets and the drivers, it was great. The people are friendly and helpful. The food is quite exciting and the country is spectacular.

There was one incident, which caused us no concern and no problem, but left us more than a little baffled. We were in the Chow Kit area buying some things to take home when we found some shirts with “BERSIH 2” on them. We asked the man what the word meant and he said “clean”.

So, we bought some. They were good quality and cheap. As we were leaving the stall area we were approached by a man who warned us not to wear the shirts or we would be in trouble with the police. We went back to our hotel thinking that we misheard the man at the stall who sold us the shirts and that bersih must be a very dirty word. So we asked the concierge and he told us it meant “clean”. So we were confused.

At dinner that night, we struck up a conversation with the people at the next table. We raised the matter with them. They told us the shirts represented a call to the people and Government for clean and fair elections. They also told us that people wearing the shirts are being locked up without trial for waging war against the King. They explained that the Government and some people were against free and fair elections.

Fair enough, it is not our country. What we still do not understand is why the King would be against free and fair elections because he is not elected. Our friends warned us that even talking about free and fair elections could land us in gaol.

Perhaps the government could put signs at the airport warning travellers that bersih is a dirty word in Malaysia and that the King and Government are against free and fair elections. In this way, no one will make a mistake that could land them in trouble.
