SEGAR AMAT!

After 12 days in Segamat/Tenang/Labis they kind of grow on you. Forgot who it was that said all good things must come to an end. Finally rolling out of Segamat with a brand new battery. If the Land Rover did not have to be returned to Desmond, we would be duty-bound to help in some way in the mopping up of our homestay homebase at #1 Jalan Pelangi, but boss woman Ms Wong would not have that and shooed us off to get back home. Ms Wong, thanks for the 6star treatment…..I will make a trip to return the the plug loaned to me. Our 10 days at your house was a home away from home.

A popular belief on how Segamat got its name has it that Bendahara Tepok of Malacca and his troops were retreating to Johor to escape the pursuing Portuguese around 1511. Whilst taking a respite by a stream he took a sip of the crystal clear water from the river which meandered through Rantau Panjang kampong, north of old Johor. "Amat segar (very refreshing)," he was reported to exclaim. The river was named Sungai Segamat, and Rantau Panjang was renamed Segamat .

In Johor, currently the wettest state, more than 39,500 people have been evacuated to relief centres since Saturday. The other evacuees comprise more than 2,200 in Negri Sembilan, 1,200 in Malacca, 500 in Pahang and 4,000 in Sabah.

Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman yesterday expressed his fears that the flood situation, which has claimed two lives, might turn out to be worse than in 2006 and 2007, when the state suffered one the worst floods in history with more than 100,000 people moved to relief centres.

"In 2006, heavy rain affected only Segamat. This time, it is affecting the whole state.”

SO WHAT HAVE BEEN DONE SINCE 2006?

A LOCAL SAID THAT IF YOU WANT THINGS APPROVED IN JOHOR, GO SEE MRS MB!

Will continue when I reach home.

  8. You're welcome....I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw you, Arif & Shang sitting next to my table. Glad that you all decided to have breakfast there. About the flood this time around, you were lucky to have left Taman Pelangi. No one thought that there'd be another major flood like the one in 2006. It may only happen again in maybe 20 or 30 yrs' time. Not after 4 yrs!! You should see and feel the anguish, frustration, despair and hopelessness felt by all those whose properties and goods were destroyed in this flood. We were all stocked up for the CNY and now everything is gone. No CNY celebrations and I'm still in the midst of clearing up the mess left by the trail of the receding flood waters...!!!!Can we SUE the government for not taking any actions after the 2006 flood to prevent another major flood like this one.

  9. Like I said in my post the three of us feel guilty that we left and you all had to clean up the mess. Dont wast time talking about suing...they will say it is an act of god, although they did not learn anything from 2006. Lets be practical Carol....encourage those who have not registered to vote to get registered at the pos office. Keep in touch: my email: ktswee@hotmail.com

Thanks again Carol....keep faith with us.

  10. In 2006, the Johor Menteri Besar said flood in Johor only takes place once every 100 years. He did nothing since then based on his thinking. He is very irresponsible and lacks accountability!

Why should we have such a reactive MB?

People in Johor are still sleeping?
