WERE THE IBANS FOOLED AGAIN?

THIS PIC WAS TAKEN BY CCLIEW WHO STAYED OVERNIGHT IN THE LONGHOUSE.
PICS BY DANIELYKL

THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE FAITH IN UMNO/BN

Among the Iban electorate, DAP was unable to make any inroads with support to have slid an estimated 2.6%.

There are three voting districts with a 80% Iban make up - Rassau, Penansu and Bawang Assan - where DAP managed to secure only 23% of the votes cast.

While it is a marginal reduction, DAP workers blame the BN's use of money and inaccessibility to Iban longhouses as factors in the dip.

The contest for the Iban speaks less to national power, but to state control in Sarawak. Throughout the campaign there were reports of intimidation in Iban areas, blockades against the entry of opposition leaders and, of course, intense vote buying for each pintu and offers of development projects for the long houses.

This community, comprising 17% of the vote in Sibu, was seen as critical in the outcome of this contest and the state as a whole.

When the votes were counted, the BN won more, with a positive swing of 3.5 percent in the three majority Iban areas overall. Turnout was high in these areas as well, over 80 percent, which was surprising given the upcoming Gawai festival two weeks away which would have prevented many young voters from returning just to vote.

STEEP CLIMB AHEAD FOR PAKAT RAKYAT

IN THE IMPENDING STATE ELECTIONS.

A CHANGE OF HEART OF IBAN LEADERS (NOT TUAI RUMAH)

AND THE IBAN YOUTHS

CAN BRING ABOUT CHANGE.

  1. Coming from the President of Umno is most appropriate after all he is also the chief of the civil servant. The first thing all the Malaysian civil servants learn is that sentence. So I am not surprised at all that it finally come from the P.M.,
when the heart overflows the mouth speaks !
I have heard this many times before from cops,
on several occasions when I was outside my home state I would be pulled over by the traffic cops for 'made up' violations this particular sentence would be said to me by the cops just so I would not be inconvenienced if I did not offer the cops some non halal money I would have to drive all the way back from my home town just to attend court for the made up violations and be fined.
I refused their black mail and no doubt was inconvenienced and was fined by the court. The court has to believe the cops ! This is Malaysia and the Malaysian police and now finally the P.M. of Malaysia had said the same thing. It is indeed a big shamble !

  3. UMNO-BN sure know how to conduct a halal buy erection campaign....just give the Ibans halal alcohol, halal food, halal money and empty promises and presto, UMNO-NB have them in their pockets.

    Sad, very sad.

  4. Halo Bernard,
The end effect is like they are `fooled' -but the process is complicated. We need to understand the ibans more to forge better understanding and solidarity. In short West Malaysians need to visit them more-or else come election we from the west will blame them again for not knowing us better!

  5. Dear ex-Malaysian, I saw an idiot went to Mecca with his fat wife to seek blessing from Allah in front of Kaabah. When come home, bad habit still no change. Lagi kuat rasuah and peras ugut. Munafik always bring shame to Islam.

    Wassalam to all. Adzhar

  6. Bernard,

I like to share with you and your readers an email from a friend touching on Sarawak and Sibu election..

    # Hi Jong
    Absolutely true....

I have been to the longhouses in the interior, no piped water, no electricity and they really do live in an alternate universe -
one which is very much at peace and in small towns or even Kuching everyone seen sharing tables at eateries, at one table regardless of religion, laden with beer, pork, etc
yet no one raises any fuss, even the ladies with tudung or uncles with kopiah, and 'bin' is used to denote son of, regardless of the persons religion.

This is why my Iban friends cannot understand what the fuss was all about, they simply cannot comprehend because there was no fuss, no hoo haa
and they are fiercely loyal to their headman.

Early this year, one of my Iban friends told me her grandma's house just have electricity installed.
I asked her, "oh, and how do you feel?"
I expected her to say, "what took them so long!", instead she responded, "oh, we are very happy the gov't is giving us electricity"?!?

What we see as rights, they see as benediction for which they are endlessly thankful.

If only they can see what is happening across the South China Sea. Yet I believe their awakening shall be the turning point to the salvaging of our nation. #

  7. It is a pity that the Ibans, Dayaks, Bidayuh and Melanau people can only read Bahasa Melayu thus depriving themselves of real news.

Now they are subjected to the RTM satellite broadcast of daily propaganda and BN lies.

Their educated kids who are working in big cities should now educate their folks not to succumbed to BN bribery.

All Sarawakians should bring down Taib mahmud administration in the next state election. He is long overdue and has been plundering teh state's wealth.

  8. Hi Zorro,

Pat you on the shoulder as I left DAP HQ Sunday afternoon! You were brooding on the stairs! :)

Ong's right! But it's been some 5 decades!

One of the guys who know the Dayaks well by scholarly work as well as being Dayak, is James Masing. Taib roped him soon as he came back. Now he's leading PRS, an BN Swak partner. They put him in SESCO (Sarawak's LLN) while the Bakun Project was being schemed for planning and rollout.

Well, Taib's real mean in scheming and been doing it for the last 3 decades and the result is - he's got the Dayaks covered, everyone covered whilst he espoused Merdeka and all the spins then and now. Sure he's got the lumber and now lands and oil palms, etc. It's a stranglehold on the Dayaks. The Semenanjung lackeys can close one eye on everything as long as he delivered the MP seats and the State. In fact they closed both eyes and shut their ears on just about everything. It serves the depridation for UMNO as well as Taib. Every time UMNO shook and rattled their kris in KL and ate and drank and made merry in KL, Taib had it all covered in suitcases! So too, for the Malaya State elections which still don't coincide with Sarawak's.

Now why would anybody do any more work about understanding anything. James Masing thought he knew everthing and now he's too deep he can't climb put.

Taib used to rage against the Colonialists and all the orang Brits for wanting to put the Dayaks as museum pieces in glass cases. You know it was like fingerpointing others tapi ibu jari tunjuk sendiri!

It's not just Taib's fault. It's the whole bloody thing of Malaysia that Tunku tried to tell us in Terang Bulan.

Hey, I'm cool! Let's just skin more of those buaya! We got one in Sibu! Let's skin some more!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yeah, let's keep up the momentum, the winning streak and skin more buayas! Our Iban friends, are you with us or still contented with BN's supply of maggi-mee and long couches for your longhouses?

Throw those BNcrutches back at them and tell them - Go fly Kite, enough is enough!

    Agi Idup,
    Agi Ngelaban!

  10. THE TIME MAY BE UP

"You can fool some of the people some of the time
But you can't fool all the people all the time"
Thus you may fool some people only one time
But there's no way to fool all others many times

  11. Asking them not to cook BN maggi is playing by BN rules.

Don't play same game, they always make new rules anyway.

Play our own game - and we won't even need to make new rules. I don't know what Tun Zoo strategy that is but just don't play their games!

I was astounded when a PR worker told me some simple ingenius ways PAS wrokers used to work their way into Sibu's Kampung Dagang. In any case, the BN Malay rep for the area was already in trouble.

These little brain waves did damage. They were little but they were like waves!

  12. In an ongoing debate on the Micah Mandate website regarding the suitability and wisdom of accepting money during election campaigns, I believe a good idea to resolve the political dilemma for voters is to set up a special anti-vote buying fund contributed by all the monies that the parties have given (legally, illegally, ethically or unethically) to sway voters' voting decisions.

  13. HOW TO HELP THE ROUGES OF UMNO BN CORRUPT THE NATION AND LINED THEIR OWN POCKETS FULL AND BANKRUPT THE NATION'S COFFER THAT WAS THE MEANING OF "I HELP YOU, YOU HELP ME" OK? SO NOBODY WILL EVER FALL FOR THE UMNO BN ROUGE'S LURE EVER AGAIN RIGHT, FRESH FROM SIBU.

ALL MALAYSIANS IRRESPECTIVE OF RACE OR CREED ARE SUFFERING THE OPPRESSIVE RULE BY THE ROUGES OF UMNO BN AND WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT THERE ARE MORE RPKS WHO DARE TO EXPOSE & BRING OUT ALL THE WRONG DOINGS OF THE CORRUPTED LEADERS OF UMNO BN TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE WHOLE WORLD SO THAT ALL MALAYSIAN VOTERS WILL VOTE WISELY COME GE 13 AND BRING DOWN THE CORRUPTED AND OPPRESSIVE UMNO BN GOVERNMENT SOONEST POSSIBLE FOR THE FUTURE WELL BEING OF ALL MALAYSIAN CITIZENS AS THE COUNTRY’S RESOURCES WILL SOON BE DECIMATED IN NO TIME UNDER THE WASTEFUL AND CORRUPTED UMNO OFFICIALS MIS-MANAGING THE MALAYSIAN ECONOMY.

The war that was necessary to be fought by all Malaysians is the only war against corruption by UMNO Rouges and their oppressive rule by their using Police Force as their tools to suppress dissents ok?

This is necessary so the said Govt. Coffers will not be empty when the new PR Govt. took over from them come next GE, Malaysian Voters should know what is required to throw them all out then because future generations of Malaysians will suffer great poverty after Umno BN would have bankrupted the Govt. Coffers by then if there is no CHANGE OF HANDS AFTER DECADES OF MIS-MANAGEMENT OF THE ECONOMY AND HIDING THE DAMAGED DONE BY POSTING RECOVERY STORIES AND THE OVER-GLORIFIED NEM IN THE MSM FOR SHOW ONLY, HOW TO BELIEVE THE MSM WHEN WHAT THEY TRULY DID WAS TO TELL ALL SORTS OF LIES OR DISTORTIONS FOR THE UMNO BN GOVERNMENT IN POWER WHO CONTROLLED THEIR YEARLY RENEWAL PUBLISHING LICENCES.

ANOTHER OF THE GREAT LIES AND DISTORTIONS THE CORRUPTED UMNO BN WILL TRY TO SPREAD A PROPAGANDA AND IN ORDER TO BRAINWASH AND HOODWINK THE MALAYSIAN GENERAL PUBLIC INTO BELIEVING THERE ARE REAL FUEL SUBSIDIES IN OIL (PETROL & DIESEL) AND GAS, THERE CAN NEVER BE ANY SUBSIDIES IN THESE ITEMS BECAUSE MALAYSIA IS A NETT OIL AND GAS PRODUCER MEANING AFTER THE DEDUCTION OF DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION MALAYSIA HAS PRODUCED AN EXCESS OF THESE ITEMS FOR EXPORT AND WHATEVER IS FOR DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION IS SOLD AT A DISCOUNT AND NEVER CONSIDERED AS SUBSIDY AT ALL QUOTING AN EXAMPLE LIKE OIL AND GAS PRODUCER LIKE BRUNEI AND SAUDI ARABIA AND OTHER GREAT OIL PRODUCERS, DOMESTIC PETROL AND DIESEL PRICES ARE SOLD LOCALLY AT A VERY STEEP DISCOUNTED PRICES AS COMPARED AGAINST WORLD IMPORTERS NON-OIL PRODUCERS’ LOCAL CONSUMPTION PRICES AND THE UMNO BN ROUGES ARE TRYING TO TAKE ALL MALAYSIANS FOR A RIDE BY INSISTING THAT THERE IS A SUBSIDY IN THE OIL AND GAS PRICES BUT IN FACT THERE WERE NONE BUT A STRATEGY TO CHEAT FOR THEIR OWN END TO PRACTISE MORE CORRUPTIONS FROM THE EXTRA THAT COULD BE MADE FROM THOSE LIES AND DISTORTIONS THEY TRY TO SPREAD IN THE MSMES CONTROLLED TIGHTLY BY THEM WITH THE RESTRICTIVE YEARLY RENEWAL PUBLISHING LICENCES.
