NOSE RING FOR CHINESE SCHOOL TEACHERS?

Chinese school teachers will be HERDED bussed into Johore Baru. Moohidin will not allow any mooing about this directive as attendance will be compulsory, HERE.

Are Chinese school teachers so easily COWED? In my time when the Ministry of Education refused to do a salary revision we teachers went on a national country-wide strike. It was worth it even if the late Fan Yew Teng and I spent some three hours in the Campbell Road police lockup until our NUT (National Union of Teachers) legal team got us out. A directive came out from the Selangor Education Department complete with diagram on how students should keep their hair. Thru a letter to Malay Mail I countered the directive by sending a picture of a monkey (back profile) where I pointed out that the even the hairline of a monkey was below the ears and not as depicted by the Department. I was summoned to the Pengarah (a chinaman those days) and reprimanded. From then I kept my hair long. Months later I was called in by my principal, the late much loved and most affable giant of a Welshman Bro Bernard and told to keep my hair short. I went and got the result sheets of the Form Three classes. (I always chose the last class.) I asked him to look at the grades of the top five students in the form 3 classes. “Bro, did you notice that the top three in my class did better than the second and third in the other classes.?” He agreed. So I asked him what has my hair got to do with the performance of my students. We went to the canteen for a drink and I told him that I will TRIM my hair. My girlie barber did a fine job!
Even to my last day as a teacher and discipline teacher I allowed my students and my sportsmen that liberty.

My football and athletics team (pic) were Petaling District champions despite their locks! Why fuss about hair when they performed beyond expectations? However for those who went overboard I gave free haircuts and was henceforth called Lee Bernard…..then a famous tonsorial artist.
How will the Chinese school teachers respond to this mandatory attendance at the Foong Yew School on 16 April? For sure they will be given goodie bags …..probably with the same contents that the 1 Star Generals and the former Special Branch Officers received. Don’t be surprised each bag will contain a NOSE RING too for good measure.

  1. Hi Mr. Bernard. Hope that all is well and good with you. I wish you the best of health too.

    I am writing in reference to the photograph, and may be digressing somewhat. My apologies in advance.

    I believe that this photo was taken close to the time an incident happened, one that I remember until today. During that time, I can't recall your part in it, or if you were still teaching in SAS by then.

    I was a school prefect then (1979), in Form 4. One of the schoolboys, notorious for his penchant for fighting had beaten up another boy (it could have been a fellow prefect) quite bad. It seemed that his father was someone of high standing. It also seemed that the HM refused to give the boy his due punishment, which was a public caning.

    I was at home sick one day. My house was within walking distance from the school. The doorbell rang and standing outside was the Head Boy Walton Morais, the Deputy Head Boy Karuna Balasundram (Mr. Bala was a prominent Special Branch top gun and Mrs. Bala was a teacher in SAS), and a few other prefects.

    Walton had wanted my agreement to join in with the other prefects in notifying the HM that all of us will resign en masse if the bad boy did not get a public caning. I was reluctant and I wanted to tell Walton that such an action would not change anything and that our resignation will be accepted. That our threat was nothing compared to (a) the grown-ups' the fear of raising the wrath of a father of high standing or (b) the gall of us mere minors making such demands.

    But in the spirit of camaraderie, I agreed and closed the door to my house.

    Thereafter, the prefects' resignation were accepted and the school's army cadets were called to stand in as "prefects" (which was not very effective), and when the new bunch of prefects were installed, the school's authority changed their uniform by having them wear light green shirts (ours were white) and with blazers made of a lighter shade of green (ours were very dark green).

    Well, that's the story I wanted to share after seeing that photo. If you don't mind, I'd like to share the photo in my Samad '80 Facebook page. Thank you in advance.

    Warm regards,

  2. Saifol, I am glad that you brought this up. Resulting from the HM not taking action, Walton,the head prefect and I resigned from our post.The ustaz took over as Disipline Master. The resignation of the prefectorial board appeared in the Star. I was proud of you guys. Our prefects changed the tone of the school.The substitute cadets did not last long.

  6. 游子505记得回家二度“清明”,记得做好选择,不要害怕改变,因为国家不会乱。

    人民不要害怕自己的选择,因为即使民联成功入驻布城,也不会通过修改宪法,让我国成为伊斯兰国或者基督教国。

  8. Hair, long or short does not changed an iota of the brain cells. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates sprout long hair during their younger days and changed the world we live in. Obama sprouting the reverse wasn't dumb either and debated well to become the First coloured President of USA and changed the world perception of a black politician leading a nation of few hundred million whites. It's substance not form in a person that dictates his intelligence.

  9. All civil servants, pls vote for change and have no fear that you-know-what can trace who you vote for. Just bring an eraser to the polling booth, check if they marks or a serial number, if so, just erase these numbers and you will never ever be traced! ABU!!!

  12. Zorro,

    This Johor business is simply another blatant use of the rakyat's money for political campaigning.

    You can be certain that the usual warnings will be given about teachers not being allowed to get involved in political matters.

    Oh well, this is one of the last chances for Muhyiddin and his cohorts to get their snouts into the feeding trough as you can be certain that "someone" would need to be supplying the transport, the food, the printing, the goodie bags, etc etc.

  13. The photo brought memories rushing back. I still remember the prefects resigning en-masse. The boy (Kamarul Bahrin) who beat up the prefect prompting this happened to be the son of some big shot who frequently donated to the PIBG. That was the reason the HM didn't want to take action. However recalling it, i dont think that was the time the shirts or blazers were replaced. I remember the new batch of prefects not having blazers but still with white shirts. Nonetheless, this still reflects the powers that e kow-tow ing to people who bear gifts. P.s... Still remember Master Khoo in that Arentina jersey nd track bottoms with a pack of Lucky Strikes sticking out the back pocket.

  14. Pakatan should very wary that many chinese in Johore are still supporting MCA. Don't ask me why.

  15. Knowing that MCA is doomed in GE13, CSL focus on maintaining his control of MCA in the coming party election with these tactics:

    1) he is not contesting because he knew it would be end of his MCA presidency if he loses;

    2) he kept out influential mca warlords from GE13 to make sure they could not rise against him;

    3) he kept his son & his younger candidates who supports him to ensure power after GE13;

    4) he is forcing OTK to go independent which would result in OTK being expelled by BN;

    MCA members should abandon the party now and vote for DAP, PAS and PKR instead! Otherwise they are merely giving their votes to Umno.

  19. Najib has no idea what 1Malaysia represents as it was a slogan all scripted for him by his paid consultant. He just announces it like a parrot. He does not live by it. That is why he cannot defend it when challenged. He can only claim that it is ambiguous as he does not have a sound understanding of what he stands for. This is also another reason why he refuses to participate in any debates as it will clearly show his shallowness and lack of conviction to the 1Malaysia aims. He may even contradict them being just a puppet of the consultants.
