MY NEW YEAR GIFT TO TWO BULLHEADED FRIENDS.


I have two friends, Balu and Keat. The former is 61 and the latter 58. I met them in the 80s during the Rukun Tetanga days. We are as thick as thieves and stubborn like mules. As such we get on infamously. I succeeded in taking them to the Post Office to register as voters in 2009. Until now I have not been able to convince them on where to put the X on their ballot papers. Continuous attempts to debate with them is like giving medicine to the already dead! Me too, I am stubborn and I am not giving up on these two recalcitrants because I believe and am convinced that there is a fine line between stubbornness and the positive side of that, which is dogged determination.  On reflection I might have been too impulsive, abrasively assertive and brutally aggressive, all born of dogged determination!  Looks like the stick has failed to do the trick so I have decided to try the proverbial carrot. I am done taking anymore bullshit from thenm. Tomorrow I will purchase Kee Thuan Chye’s latest book and give them as New Year’s Day present.


 If that does not work, I will invoke my favirute curse: May fireants make nest under their armpits.
Good idea yah, presenting them with the book. You can do likewise to friends, yes?

  3. Disappointly, there are still many "brain dead" you will find supporting UMNO/BN....of course, there needless to mention cherry-pickers and arselickers. Zorr, don't be too harsh on yourself and your stubborn friends...I am no different!
    Your "stick and carrot approach" will not work on me... if you tried to make me change my mind to favour BN.
    I am not brain dead, I have fixed mindset!....all the way with Pakatan!

  4. I have similar friends who will point little flaws of Pakatan and ignore the great faults of BN. Their enormous fear is letting any party other than BN to govt but yet can't see the goodness two Pakatan state govt has delivered. Rather not delivered, massive corruption. They prefer a BN that keeps plundering the nation without battling an eye lid. Guess you can't win them all.

  5. Bro Z, You know what? I have just invested with my hard-earned money in the purchase of a new PC and installation of UniFi network. Why? Just to get myself ready to follow the coming of "Mother of All Battles' which is just round the corner.

    Hope Pakatan will the BN a 'run for their money' contest which could go either way. Best of luck to Pakatan. We really NEED AN UBAH!!!

    Talk to them based on facts that puts country's interest first.

    What does Malaysia badly need?

    Effective anti corruption agency.The only way MACC can reach puberty is by placing them under Dewan Rakyat jurisdiction. DG of MACC answerable to legislators, not Home Ministry.

    Pretty sure they will agree corruption is our worst enemy. Convince them PR will ensure this agency's independance from Hishamuddin by placing them where they belong.

    Same goes with Election Commission and Petronas, all being accountable to Dewan Rakyat.

    With this moves, ask them, will it help in making Malaysia a better country.

    If they answer yes, ask them what is stopping from doing the right thing, ie voting PR?

    It might set you back by RM39.90 a piece but, if I am the Education Minister, I will make sure it forms part of Form Six General Paper Syllabus.

    My commiserations on having friends like that.

    I have a similar problem. I have known Allan for about 35 years :) He is, already a registered voter. He last voted in the 1990s and he voted PAS. Since then, he has lost interest because he doesn't think it will make any difference :(

    So far, I have had no success beyond getting him to check that he is still registered (old old address on record).

    Even outright bribery did not work!!

    I have offered to pay some of his expenses incurred - no go, cos he is not poor.

    I have offered make it a party if we both go vote, e.g. breakfast at a nice nasi lemak place, then lunch later and maybe a dinner - no go, cos he's watching his diet.

    And so the list goes, or rather not goes :(

    Your article has inspired me to keep chipping away at him. :)

  11. In this case, we are sure the book that you plan to give them will be left unread to gather dust.

    Sad to say the only way for them to do what you want them to do in this case is to pray for a minor life changing tragedy to befall them

  15. Muhammad Azman....thanks for your guidance. Like I said I have been too aggressive and probably too vindictive. I will desist from giving them what I have and give them what they want. I have not giving up on my two bulls. They are superbly decent chaps. Thanks for your help saudara.

  16. WandererAus.....Casting our vote is our right but we must vote with our conscience too. If I was a resident of Selayang I would vote for the incumbent UMNO Adun Dato Seri Subahan Kamal. He renders help to all his constituency, irrespective of race and political affiliations. I have heard so much positive things about him from trusted non muslim friends....even from YB William Leong MP for Selayang. YES, I am pro Pakatan and an ardent supporter of ABU but my judgement will be always tempered with prudence. There are decent untainted non-partisan people in UMNO who represent their constituencies without fear or favor. These we must keep with clear conscience for a better Malaysia.

    As I know, the good UMNOputras were the dead ones...one that prominently came to my mind was, "Father of Merdeka, Tunku Abdul Rahman"

    I understand your predicament, having to choose between a wonderful and dedicated representative (YB Subahan)and your wish for Pakatan Rakyat.

    In circumtances like this, we shall ponder on what is right for the country first. Always believe in the phrase "My Country's Interest Comes First"

    See my friend, Malaysia future is at a cross-road. It is up to us on how and where we wan't it headed.

    BN had it's chance. Time for change as this party seems ignorant of rakyat's wishes. YB Subahan - collateral damage? Why not?
