FLEA MARKET MENTALITY VERSUS CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY.

EVEN after Haris told me where the EPIC volunteers were registering new voters it took me sometime before I saw a youngster with a VOICE YOUR CHOICE poster pinned to the back of his shirt. He directed me to where Jasmine and her group were stationed - in an insignificant poor- traffic corner on the 2nd level. I am referring to the Amcrop Mall. When I paid them a visit after brunch they had already registered 40 new voters. They would have done better if the MANAGEMENT of the Mall had not prevented those kids from pinning those posters to the back of their shirts. The were not harassing anyone. They were kids who sacrificed their Saturday and tomorrow too to do a civic service. They are not paid for every new voter who registers. Whereas, at the entrance an IT booth was monotonously soliciting their products. Why this double standard treatment? Is this an BN Mall or is it just that the management is stymied by a flea-market mentality?

Jasmine said that they are determined to register 2million unregistered voters before the next GE, but of course they will not use this unfriendly mall.

Things were much more conducive over at the Subang Parade. EPIC was strategically positioned and they had ARPHAN AHMAD (who blogs as the Storyteller) a Mafrel volunteer assisting them. Registration was at 35 but as I left 5 young Malay ladies sat down to be counted.

So what's the difference between these two Malls?

CLASS....and admittedly Subang Parade understood what Coroporate Community Responsibility is all about.

  1. Henceforth, if we need to go to the mall, Subang Parade should be our choice; AmCorp last!!

  3. I am one of the flea market trader. Amcorp mall flea market is a very potential area. Never give up. Maybe they can talk to the committee leader Mr. Percy Fung, Vision Pro Optical owner at Lower Ground Floor.
Try to convince him to advice the organizer.

  4. Shame on you Amcorp Mall!

"VOTE YOUR CHOICE" effort to register voters is indeed an admirable social responsibility. Why the hostile and unfriendly treatment, can we get some answers from the management?

  7. It is obvious these "UNFRIENDLY MALLS" are generally linked to UMNO. So any financial losses suffered by them, they have their Godfather Petronas to save their ass!!!

Anyway, the idea of boycotting these politically linked establishments (management) must be taught a lesson. In Bolehland, everything boils down to politics...even breeding low beings in business....

  8. Uncle Z,
May I suggest we put up a register post at the Big Giant Super Market at Kelana Jaya, Section 7,Selangor. This place is quite crowded and alot of 'elbow space' for the registee to ask questions.Worth a try!!

  9. Z,
Forget about the unfriendly Amcorp Mall. Perhaps they have a silent directive from the bastard Ibrahim Ali and henchmen not to accommodate the team in giving them a favourable spot to operate. U know lah.. in Bolehland everything is possible.

  10. Dear Zoro,
Yes, I agree with Syiok Guy as to list out the hostile shopping centres. Then put their names n location in print 2 make others aware n not to frequent such establishment.U know la, especially the chinese businessmen are mostly thinking of self-interest and greed for money. They will kow-tow to the threats coming from UMNO.

  11. Hey to the young Malaysians who took the trouble to spend their weekend to getting more voters registered. We salute you, this is indeed a SERVICE to the Nation.
Yesterday I was touched to see you standing at Subang Parade and encouraging Malaysians to be registered and make their votes count. Carry on your good work.

  16. Dear Zorro,

My 2-cents. Perhaps EPIC should target or do a grouping of people they intend to approach. Eg. For younger people, organize the campaign in Malls like Low Yat Plaza and Sungei Wang Plaza. For middle aged, put up campaign in Hypermarts etc etc...

I am personally wooing new voters as well. The most recent, my 2 bro-in-law and their girlfriends.

  17. Shiok Guy, your suggestion is very unfair to the mall traders and vendors. The traders and vendors did nothing wrong.

  18. Please don't get misunderstood before any investigation. Amcorp Mall is the biggest indoor flea market ever in Malaysia.
Amcorp Mall has provided hundreds flea market vendors a trading opportunities with a quite reasonable rental charges for so many years. Almost all the flea market vendors in many races just want to cari makan sikit sahaja. Amcorp Mall management understood that most of the vendors couldn't earn enough living, so they won't simply increase the flea market stall charges like other area. The event organiser might not able to give EPIC a free or a best location without any order from the top. EPIC should go to Melawangi Sdn. Bhd.(management office) to see the superior for solving their problem.

  19. Eh? I was told different, Bernard. the management of Subang Parade were not so friendly and specifically instructed the Epic team not to 'harass' their shoppers. This resulted in a rather poor number of registrations compared to Cineleisure which recorded the highest number. I think.

  20. Hi Patrick,

The feedback you may have heard from could be from a volunteer with a run in with a staff member.

I can testify that Subang Parade has been all supportive and encouraging. They are also very generous with the voters registration drive. They are offering us 2 free booth in separate locations in the mall to coincide with their "I Love" Bazaar weekend. They are definitely top class
