Over dinner at Patrick Teoh's Damansara Village, to send off Boom and Rodi, Hawkeye said that our ringgit is not accepted in most countries. I thought that it was the todi taking effect. "Go read my posting lah guru." So I did when I came back home early this morning. It is HERE.

Yes, I am happily staying in Australia (correct spelling)..for the last 28 years. Thank Allah, I made the right decision! I was spared of financial losses and treated as a second class citizen.
So what so blady great with Bolehland?
A fucking frog in a melayu well.....
Hello Uncle Zorro,
ReplyDeleteAfter the South East Asian financial crisis of 1988 our great leader took up Krugman's idea and built a great firewall to protect the Malaysian Ringgit against attacks from currency speculators especially those from overseas where the Malaysian banking regulations have no control over their activities.
As a result of the firewalling of the Malaysian Ringgit, no trading of the Ringgit was permitted outside of Malaysia.
However, in Singapore and part of Thailand, some moneychangers might trade the Malaysian Ringgit.
Regards.
Horrors, so it is true!
ReplyDeleteI was not dreaming.
The ringgit is just paper.. just printed paper.. not legal tender elsewhere.
Now I have to scrounge arround for my next meal.
Maybe I should give up, and emigrate, but no one wants me, not even here where I was born and bred.
I speak and write half baked Queen's English flavoured with American spelling. The degree I earned here is also only just a piece of paper. I was not taught how to swim with the sharks. I am trained to be a goldfish in a bowl.
Now I am afraid....
Insofar the Malaysian currency control: the pegging part is lifted, but the non-tradable offshore part is still in place.
ReplyDeleteCurrencies are paper. It is no longer backed by gold. So, every country is free to print as much as they want. Just look at the Zimbabwean Dollar. Why do we prefer a Euro 1.00 note to a Z$1 million note?
ReplyDeleteWhat gives a particular currency its market value is the confidence the market gives it. The way to judge this confidence is float the currency, make it tradable offshore.
even Maybank Singapore branch don't want their own Ringgit! I wanted to send some Ringgit back to Malaysia and the stupid Bank ask me give her the money in Singapore dollars!!
ReplyDeleteSo i have to lose two times in exchange rate. First convert my Ringgit to Sing dollars and than sent to Malaysia and than reconvert back to Ringgit in the Malaysian Bank account.
And than the best part is that i have to go change my Ringgit from the money changer as Maybank Singapore can't change the damn ringgit!
So after going around looking for a money changer and holding sing dollar i went back to Maybank.
Than at the teller they ask me for a Singapore PR papers or a work permit??
After a lot of argument and hassle i left the bank and went to a nearby DBS bank who just transmitted the money without ant problem!
Hi Tongkat Ali, it's true that Malaysian passport holders, 100% will get body check before they board the international plane in US.
ReplyDeleteDon't believe, try yourself, I and my Malaysian colleague has this problem while others such as my Singaporean colleague does not have.
