I have always, and will continue to participate at protest rallies as it is our constitutional right to assemble peacefully for a cause. In all our protests from BERSIH to last years NO TO ISA RALLY, we never retaliated by destroying property despite being tear-gassed and drenched with an extra potent chemical bath.
I take my hats off to my Muslim friends who demonstrated peacefully after Friday prayers. It is their right to protest it must be realised that they did not protest against the Court decision. There were no seditious incantations and they dispersed peacefully when told to do so. The situation was volatile, but good sense amongst my Muslim brethren carried the day. Until my Muslim friends are convinced by their religious authorities that it is OK for non Muslims to use Allah, they will continue to protest. It is their right to protest but not their right to fire-bomb places of worship. But my Muslim brothers who gathered at mosques did no such thing! Good sense snuffed up the incendiary sentiments fanned by some bigots. We have these on both sides.
On the flip-side there were CULPRITS who spread rumours about more bombings and about rampaging crowd damaging cars that displayed rosaries and religious artifacts in their car. SMS of this nature had a field day. Only two friends thought they would do me a favor by informing me of this Bangsar episode. Most friends do no send me these as they know that I would reply with a stinging rejoinder unless they have proof of such transgressions. Until we have substantive reports backed by facts and police reports, it remains a rumour. Except for those who spread such rumors it is heartening to read Nicholas Lim’s letter to Malaysiakini:
I was at the church that was burned in Desa Melawati this afternoon. There was a crowd there consisting mostly of church members and their pastor. What struck me was that there was no outward show of anger, no hysterical chanting of retaliation or any other negative actions.
Instead I find that those who were there feel only sadness that such thing can happen in our beloved country. During the interview with Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen, the church's pastor said something like 'we forgive them...'.
It nearly brought tears to my eyes. His beloved church has be burned to the ground... but instead of stirring up the emotions of his flocks, he appeal for calm and ask all to forgive those who had done the damage.

This is the Malaysia we cherish warts and all…..SO……..
I am happy that nobody amongst the protesters were arrested although there was a threat by the Home Minister that he would put people away under the ISA. Should it have happened I would continue to stand by anyone arrested under the ISA because it is not a just law. Should anyone of the bombers be charged they should not be charged under the ISA either! Should they be charged under the ISA, I will stand by them! Its a promise.
pls FORGIVE them 4 they know exactly what they are doing !!??
ReplyDeleteI am a Muslim it sadden me such an unislamic thing happened I will like Utusan editors HM and the PM what is your gain to incite hate among Malaysian. Your uncover blessing to the cow head demo your intended approval or unintended, direct or indirect blessing to demo which you boasted that you have no power to stop. All this have lent bullets for those lost souls to do the inhuman act. Now you the PM will be going around the Nation to claim champion of the people and your 1 Malaysia. Have you no shame???
ReplyDeleteIt look likes, some of our country man becoming taliban it is because solely the education system in UMNO style,BTN and merely showing more Islam than PAS for electrol vote. UMNO must paid for is guilt & greedy. It will loose power. Majority of Malays are not thinking like pakistanis or afghans. They are educated, broadminded they know what is right or wrong and god fearing people. The time short for BN.

Bernard, you have a high opinion of Sakmongkol. However, seeing his stance on the election of Isa and on the Allah issue, what is your opinion of him now, we will like to know since it is through you that we came to know about his blog. I think he is not that much different from the rest in UMNO and that he is looking forward to UMNO retaining power and clear cut issues (Muslims in the rest of the world have no issue with the word. How can a thinking person disagree?). Come let us know what you think.
ReplyDeleteThe fast action by Chief Minister Khalid and PAS's Hadi visiting the churches helps a lot in calming the situation and anxiety .
ReplyDeleteA fourth church was fire bomb .
This means 4 tight slaps on the face of najib and his cousin himshamoodin.
Truly 1 Malaysia ah? cant stop the protest. cant stop the church torching. RM500k to appease the victims. dirt cheap Mr 1Malaysia for brinksmanship.
ReplyDeleteTeoh Beng Hock, is this 1maalysia?
Would love to find out what those APCO writers are spinning now as Malaysia breaks into the global news networks for the wrong reasons.
ReplyDeleteTo no more Sak's fan....did he support Isa? I might have missed that as I do not read him everyday. He has been able to give a pretty unbiased views of the goings on in UMNO. However, where religion is concerned he has every right as a Muslim to disagree with some Islamic academics. It is up to us comment on his post. Why don't you just do that. I am sure Datuk Sak will give you an answer, agreeable or otherwise to you.
ReplyDeleteIf you find his views on the Allah issue distasteful, it is your choice to discontinue reading him.
Sorry uncle, hate will always be part of human nature, so not too surprise about this.
ReplyDeleteOwn it, Unker, that you are wrong some of the time.
ReplyDeleteYou said that MACC gonna change, just because you like the look of that guy.
And you say that the Samonkol guy is cool, yeah, right.
Unker, please own up to the fact that you can not be right all of the time.
time to boycott mamak restaurant la cos of Kimma's action during the protest. the chief said he will bring in their one million members...
ReplyDeleteU take care too uncle. Saw u on tv at the herald courts proceedings. They might think u are part of the herald.
ReplyDeletedosa...dosa...DOSA !!
ReplyDeletemay the guilty ones yang berDOSA come out to face us , ,...@#$%^&* !!
When they are not trained properly how can they throw molotov cocktail straight and true. They should follow the Taliban's method of tying explosives around their waist, walk in and do the damage. That is a more effective way and probably cause some collateral damage as well.
ReplyDeletePity them. They just can't think straight. Because they are already confused. Probably, mentally retarded. How can they fight a decent battle and win the war?
Dear Zorro,
ReplyDeleteAll these must the the works of the Extremist Opposition Supporters who are out to create trouble!!!
What a better time to discredit 1Malaysia!!!
ALL the rumours SMSs’ received yesterday were from Opposition Voters!!!
These are the TRAITORS of MALAYSIA!!!
the great musang says now there ant enough cops to protect the churches! ya, you church goers have to beef up your own security now coz the cops have their hands full.
ReplyDeletewhat a confidence booster statement from the top cop but for who? your guess is as good as mine.
Yeah, RM500k of tax-payers money to appease the church victims but he dared not give a minute of his time to hear out one church member Agnes. What was he afraid of, why do you think he dared not hear her out? ..guilty?
ReplyDeleteWatch this video from Malaysiakini
http://www.malaysiakini.tv/video/18337/najibs-gift-to-torched-church-rm500k-for-move.html
Some umnoputras have insisted that Catholics should use "Tuhan" instead of "Allah" to address the Catholic or Christian God. But in the national anthem, "Tuhan" (not "Allah") bless the country (...Tuhan kurniakan...). How now ?!!!. If Malay-Muslims are that easily confused as portrayed by umnoputras, they must be thinking that Malaysia is blessed by the Catholic/Christian God, and the Muslim God "Allah" is perpetually on leave. Perhaps, this confusion may cause the government to change the national anthem by replacing "Tuhan" with "Allah". But then again, non-muslims will not be allowed to sing the national anthem. Then it would be non-muslims' turn to be confused. So much for "1 Malaysia"!!!. Its more like "1 Helluva confusing & devide and rule"!!!.
ReplyDeletebeware : 'they' might destroy a surau or abandoned mosque .....put the blame on ....!
ReplyDeleteSince the ISA is too mild, perhaps the arsonists should be hanged?
ReplyDeleteWe do not need these stupid trouble makers. I say we give them a double dose. First ISA them, then hang them.
A GOOD MAN DOES NOTHING.
Kalambong, give me the post that I claim I am always right. Mine are my personal opinion, perception or what you may call it, on MACC chief and Sakmongkol. I never asked anybody to believe me. I just turned 70 and am still full of vim, vigor and vitality, and enjoying every bit of it. You know why? I am an optimist. I try to see positiveness even in negativity. I surround myself with positive people unstead of the boo-boo boys, some of whom says that learning to make cheese-cake is akin to devil worship. These guys don't smell the coffee at all.
ReplyDeleteNajib is adamant that "1Malaysia" is still intact. Everybody knows, unless he is a buffoon, that "1Malaysia" is about multibillion advertising contracts. Najis is indirectly correct, the gravy train will still go on. And who did he boast this fairy tale to? – to some 7,000 Umno supporters in Hulu Selangor.
ReplyDeleteBut for the others: what the heck, if there is really a "1Malaysia", why were 3 churches being torched over a non-issue?
ok. NO more mamak food !!
ReplyDeleteFinally you agree with the ISA.
ReplyDeleteWhat a hypocrite.

Can you understand simple English?
Your teachers must have given up on you early in the sekolah rendah. Pitiful indeed!
Anon555 is perhaps why there is so much disagreement, so many quarrels that can be 'incited' between the races - it all boils down to 'understanding' and the key to that is language, no?
ReplyDeleteUncle Zorro - i think u gotta use English that is simpler than simple!
Aiya, use manglish lah :)
This man sounds good now.
ReplyDeleteHis recent call-up to Bukit Aman really cured him.
Congrats cops.
If Najis by his open statement ADMITTED he can't control the mosque demonstrators, then how can he control the MALAYSIA as a country? He is thus not fit to be the PM! This he admitted himself PUBLICLY!
ReplyDeleteSmart calculation Najis! UMNO guys destroy church and the RAKYAT is paying to reinstate it! Sungguh pandai!
ReplyDeleteJust wondering......
ReplyDeleteThe idiot who started off this - the 24 million illegal toyol, where is he, why is he so quiet, why did the fire bombings started from Selangor? has he a hand in all these sicko arson?
Does anyone know?
Uncle Zorro

ReplyDeleteLIKE what happened in Hong Kong yesterday(9/1/2010),when this guy just splashed ACID on to people in a pasar malam there, hurting 50 people--These are acts of frusted
CHARACTERS who are Cracko in nature and one to take out on other people, because of their own problems, maybe they're unemployed
or have money problems or are simply nuts!!!
It seemed the POLICE have FAILED to detect or take preventive measures, just like they failed to prevent KIDNAPPINGS of small children,or crimes of the Mat Rempit or failed to checked the free movements of the illegal immigrants, who might just be CRIMINAL-substance...!!!!
These people acted on slight incitation or perceived provocation such as the use of the word ALLAH by the Catholics.
These wrong-doing people, who are arsonist should be caught and booked for their crime against other people, whether intentionally or otherwise.......
I am an UMNO member to be be open about it, pretty much agreeing with Sak on his take toward attacking UMNO's ill doing and mismanagement.Wrong is wrong even I am a party member.
ReplyDeleteBut your take on the Muslim right to display their frustration of the Allah issue gain my respect.
This is maturity in ageering others different opinion or inclinations.
Keep in mind not many Malays are into Molotovs etc.We have job to pay for the bills, mortgage to serve and car repayments to service and faith to profess.
Thank you.Sincerely

Hi Br Bernard
ReplyDeleteIt just pains n saddens me 2 a point of disgust re the church bombing incidents no words can describe.
Religious tolerance which is so much emphasized in every facets/articles of faith in particular Islam, the religion I have professed many many many years ago (45 to b exact), r just thrown to the winds n I dread to think of the dire consequences
Dato Zaid's suggestion on Inter Faith Dialogue is certainly timely
Sorry not to have been in touch ..the passing of my beloved wife Munah (after a blissful 38 yrs marriage) about 2 months ago is certainly no excuse 4 me to stay quiet on issues so close to both our hearts....religious tolerance. Munah certainly also shares how I feel on this issue.
May Allah bless us all

ReplyDeleteThis is the result of those racist UMNO politicians and their garbage reporting media UM actions the past few months. Yet the government has not done anything. The top man PM and his DPM and HM must resign if they have any dignity and moral.
ReplyDeleteQuote from one blogger:-
"When a party president for more than two decades had said that his own party Umno is a racist party; Najib, what have you done to help erase that negative perception from the mind of people outside of Umno? Nothing.
Instead, we witness one incident after another which remind us again and again that Umno is getting more racist each day. The cow-head incident, the handling of demonstrations, the calls for 'bakar gereja', 'pendatang', etc.
You need not have to say that Umno is not racist. Just act to prevent these racist acts and refrain from being seen as blatantly condoning those acts. The resources and power are available and in your hands."
Anon856pm. By the way, it was not Bukit Aman, stupid. I was called to the Commercial Crime Department. There they fried my scrotum contents and served it to you for breakfast. Hope you will recover soon and join me in the next protest if you have not lost your family jewels. No, better you come to PJ Sessions court on 22 Jan. We could have some fun, ok? See yah!
ReplyDeleteCommercial Crime Department is a branch of the respected Polis DiRaja Malaysia. Stupid.
ReplyDeleteNo time to argue with you on semantics.
Thanks but no thanks for the Jan 2 invite.
That's my birthday. The best ever do if you go to jail.
To you and like-minded racists, the Government, Malays and Muslims are always wrong.
I don't share your racism.
You think you are always right.
