BOUQUETS FOR THE MAYOR OF KL

FROM THE DESK OF TERRENCE FERNENDEZ:

KL Mayor cancels RM32mil flower contract

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11, 2009) : City Mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail has cancelled a three-year RM32.4 million contract for flowers.

"The cancellation of the flower contract is part of the Mayor's efforts to right wrongs and questionable decisions and policies of previous administrations. Also, as times are bad, the DBKL needs to focus its limited resources on more important issues," said the source.

When contacted, Ahmad Fuad said he revoked the contract last month.

"I felt it was a total waste of funds to throw money on such extravagances, especially during current lean times. When the deal was struck, I think they did not consider the capacity of DBKL to pay," he said, adding that records showed the original pricing was RM1.5 million a month before it was negotiated downwards.

He declined to reveal more details, but sources said the company concerned is Ampang-based Bright Spark Sdn Bhd.

An online search on the Companies Commission of Malaysia drew no results.

  1. Kudos to Mayor of KL.

But where is the MACC? Why haven't they investigated? Still too busy looking for that "missing" witness in Auckland Zoo or Geneva?

  2. More than 10 million a year just for flowers? And how much of that in commission? Whoever made the stupid decision and signed a contract like that should be hung by his balls until every drop of blood is drained from his body. But then, this is Bolehland I guess.

  4. Cool! But does cancellation of contract mean breach of contract?
Can and will that company sue DBKL for cancelling the contract?

If the flower contract got cancelled, then the company Bright Spark Sdn Bhd could have changed to "Dim Candle Sdn Bhd" and since no longer registered, obviously it cant be trace from ROC / CCM.

Whatever it is, those Bright Spark gotta cancel their holidays, new S-Class and new BMW 7-series bookings now that RM32Million cash not flowing into their wallets.

These Gomen employees are hard-up for easy money willing to cheat the Public who pay their salaries from taxes etc. Bad people huh!!!

  6. Wish we have more government servants like the present Mayor..the more urgent issues for DBKL are proper housing, good roads, working street lightings and efficient garbage disposal etc. Anyway, its a good start..how about the Bangsar public land concerted to Aman Razak car showroom??

  9. This is a brave guy. Very brave. But he is in trouble because the MACC will be going after him. MACC only goes for Mr Clean and this is guy is Mr Clean. Be that as it may, we pray God will protect him.

  10. Uncle Zorro,

Do not give the bouquet too soon to the KL Mayor. For all we know he cancelled the contract because he:-
    1) did not get any commission from Bright Spark or
    2) he's waiting to re-award the contract to one of his cronies companies.

Just wait and see when the flowers contract will be re-awarded.

  14. Congratulations to Terence and Nades for this incredible story. I believe more dirt will be dug up and I believe more incredible stories will be exposed. In the meantime, I congratulate the selangor government for declassifying the so-called state secrets of the corrupt Barisan government under the crazy Toyo. Toyo, you wont be able to sleep well. The people want justice. You will pay for your crimes against the nation.

  15. First of all Datuk Ahmad Fuad is certainly a brave man, and a rare one.

One has to be both rare and brave, to revoke a contract as big as this one because it certainly seems as if this apparently non-existent Ampang-based Bright Spark Sdn Bhd.might just be the money-churning project of some one high and mighty. And in Malaysia one does not dare go against anyone high and mighty.

It is disgusting that Malaysia has earned itself such a cheap and distasteful reputation of a land where greed, corruption and abuse of power are just a part of everyday life.

But can we just blame the current powers that be for this situation? Past governments must have either contributed to it and even encouraged it for it to reach the appalling levels it boasts of today.

    Mourn for Malaysia

  16. the good mayor did right.
but that made the previous mayor a flagrant spendthrift of the rakyat's money.
just how did he approve of bright spark's exorbitant fees and how was it not registered properly and yet awarded the contract?
bright spark was indeed a bright deceitful spark to have fooled the dbkl or were the 2 wired together?
    ad nauseum.

  17. My neighbour supplies flowers to Langkawi. He has to transport it all the way from Sg. Buloh. I've been to Langkawi. The last visit was in April. It seemed to me there is ample space for flower cultivation, so it really boggles the mind. Takkan orang Kedah tak tau macam mana nak tanam pokok bunga kekwa, pokok tahi ayam?
