THIS JOURNEY, LIKE ALL, STARTS WITH THE FIRST STEP....

TODAY, i would not be a participant of this journey if I do not dedicate this post to Sam, aka Haris Ibrahim. I met Haris in court when Jeff Ooi and Rocky were summoned to court by NST. I went into court at Denmark House and I saw this pony-tailed giant conffering amongst the lawyers. My first impression was that, he must be the prosecution. I can sense out a maverick (whatever the shades), when I see one without having to communicate. I can commune with non-conformists and anything anti-establishment, even as a teacher. I teased my students to walk up to the cliff's edge. I grew my hair long against all tenets educators are contracted to adhere to. I had never been to court before this and the sight of this long-tressed attorney in the staid mandatory black jacket unfolded my flower-people days of bell-bottoms, extended collars and platform shoes. Shit, Jeff and Rocky are dead ducks against this guy.

Bangun, somebody monotoned and the court was in session.....and good mother of Jesus, this pony-tailed guy sat alongside Malik Imtiaz and Edmond Bon (whom I was introduced to earlier by Rocky at the National Press Club.) The rest, as the cliche goes, is history.

Haris aka Sam and I clicked. I sensed in him the innate penchant to outstretch his hands to the oppressed. We liked the same things, which is nobody's business to have to know. We journeyed together from Permatang Pauh to Permatang Pasir, snoring to glory after a day's campaign. (His snoring is equivalent to that big monstrous cement mixer in its thores of breaking down!). But who was it that said that Big Men do everything BIG.....even snoring. That's my buddy and soul-mate, journey-mate and hiding-mate Haris. But don't for a moment think that it was honky dory from the word go. No way, although both of us were, still are, bull-headed, vindictive, stubborn, aggressive, assertive and abrasive, I shared, Sam's vision of one nation one race. HARIS, it is comforting to know that we can walk side by side in this uncharted journey, as ANAK BANGSA MALAYSIA. See you at 6:00pm brother.
