ARE THEY RARE THESE DAYS?

Today I read two stories online. Both journalists are my favorites. These two have walked right up to the edge…clung on to the edge, often blistered and scared in the process, but they always delivered, when they went down to the pits - “# 9 gold” their say it as it is stories. They hit the keyboards with heart They have no masters per se. Their masters are their conscience and fidelity to the game. But most important they stuck their necks out despite being maligned and they even put their jobs on the line – DEFENDING THEIR PEERS. If peers had friends like these two, they fear no enemies.

PEOPLE, my two favorites: Nades (HERE)and Johnson Fernendez (HERE).

To these two I dedicate this top-charting classic of the mid 50s.

This dedication is also extended to sports journalists/editors who expressly impressed me in those years when I spent more hours on the field than at home; these did not report the game, they READ the game they witnessed, commented and not just report – Fauzi Omar, Lazarus Rokk, George Das, Selva, the late Francis Emmanuel, the late Normal Sieble , Cheryll Dorall, Tony Danker, Tony Francis, Terrence Netto and Maurice Khoo. If I have forgotten some please blame it on a fading memory….but mostly because we have not touched flesh or knocked down a few recently.

WHAT THE HECK, I NEED TO SALUTE YOU HACKS!

  2. They are all my heroes, Z. These people inspire even until today although I am no longer in journalism. They stand for principles long forgotten - although they know that principles don't put food on the table.
Thanks for remembering them and appreciating them. I'm sure it means a lot to the people you mentioned here and many others.

  4. Nowadays, journalists only think of getting datukships, tansriships and tunships. These pseudo journalists, mainly from Umno mouthpiece NST, Berita Harian and MCA mouthpiece Star, are an insult to the human race. They are prositutes. They have no shame. I spit on you bastards. BASTARDS. You have shamed an honourable profession. You have no conscience. BODOH>

  5. After careful thought, i have decided to award NST stooges (who also include my good friend Syed Nadzri) a special award for services rendered to the nation. The award is called PKM, otherwise known as Pukimah.

  6. Hi Bernard, you might like to add in Tony Danker to your list. He is now down with a stroke and wheel-chair ridden.
