LAST NIGHT THEY LOST THE BATTLE, NOW THEY WANT TO DECLARE WAR ON US BARISAN RAKYAT BLOGGERS.

We are aware that most of you could not get into Malaysia Today. The Government has asked all ISP to block MT.

Arctic Turban one of my regular visitors volunteers this:

For those connected to TM and/or Celcom 2 ways to overcome their blocks :

a. TM uses a simple IP block. To access http://www.malaysia-today.net
change the DNS lookup to OpenDNS.

Those using XP :

* click Start -> Connect To
* Right Click network connection you are using.
* Select Properties
* Click on Network Tab
* Highlight “Internet Protocol”
* Click on Properties at bottom right

* Click “Use the Following DNS server addresses

Preferred DNS Server : 208.67.222.222
Alternate DNS server : 208.67.220.220

Click OK all the way. close connection and start again. If you
type http://www.malaysia-today.net you will arrive at the site.

b. change URL to

mt.harapanmalaysia.com/2008

I hope TMNet don’t block OpenDNS. TMNet’s own DNS server sucks.

AINON@besut contributes: Site is accessible via IP address http://202.75.62.114/2008/ and web address http://mt.harapanmalaysia.com/2008/

Controversial online portal Malaysia Today had its access blocked by the country’s largest internet service provider (ISP) TMnet.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chief operating officer Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi confirmed that the block was ordered by the commission.

"It is being blocked because we found that some of the comments on the website were insensitive, bordering on incitement," he told Malaysiakini.

The curb however does not appear to be enforced by other ISPs and users are able to access Malaysia Today.

As at 4pm, a check by Malaysiakini showed users can still access Malaysia Today through three other major ISPs - Jaring, Maxis and Time. However, MCMC said that all ISPs have been told to block the errant website.

This is believed to be the first time the government-linked telecommunications giant has imposed such curbs against a non-pornographic website, posing questions as to whether the government is reneging on its no-Internet censorship pledge.

Under the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Malaysia 10 Point Bill of Guarantees, the Malaysian government promises to ensure no internet censorship.

The domain name - http://www.malaysia-today.net - has been unaccessible to TMnet subscribers since yesterday evening as a result of the blockage - known technically as 'DNS blackhole list'.

TMnet subscribers however can still access the website by typing in Malaysia Today's IP address or an alternative web address in their web browsers.

Dear All,

For those who cannot access MT site for the ISP, one other way around this is to enter MT via a proxy.

There are plenty of sites on the internet that allow you to by-pass this blockage by using its proxy site for free.

Just do a google on "proxy" and choose the one you prefer, type in MT link and enjoy MT again.

Happy reading MT :)

You can also access using reliable proxy browsers like xB Browser.

Go here:

http://xerobank.com/xB_Browser.php

to download.

Access to the TOR proxy networks is free...the paid access option is only if u want to subscribe to their high speed private network.

Connection is not bad at all. The sluggishness is only about 5-sec average for page loads. About 10-sec if I'm using wireless access.

PEOPLE, PASS ON THIS MT LINK TO YOUR FRIENDS. THAT IS THE ONLY WEAPON IN THIS WAR OF ATTRITION. BE STRONG.

++++++

and one other important thing: sign the petition at People's Parliament.

just do it!

  3. In the event that MCMC decides to further implement a full blocking of websites or blogs not friendly to UMNO/BN, the followings can be used as an effective way to circumvent internet censorship:

    1. Accessing a mirror site
    2. Using a non-censoring DNS-server
    3. Using a non-censoring proxy server

    1. Access a mirror site
For instance, Malaysia Today can be accessed at this moment at http://mt.harapanmalaysia.com

    2. Using a non-censoring DNS-server
Change your DNS to OpenDNS server 208.67.222.222 or
    208.67.220.220 .

Click http://www.opendns.com for more info on how to set DNS.

    3. Using a non-censoring proxy server
This blocking can be circumvented by surfing through a proxy site:
    http://proxychina.org
    http://proxy4china.com

There are many proxy sites available, just google for them.

Another better and effective way to circumvent internet censor is by using Ultrasurf. It is developed by the people against internet censorship in China. It enables users inside countries with heavy Internet censorship to visit any public web sites in the world safely and freely while it automatically searches the highest speed proxy servers in the background.

    Download Ultrasurf software from:
    http://www.ultrareach.com
    http://www.wujie.net/downloads/ultrasurf/u.zip

Then extract the file and run, that's it.

If you are using browser other than IE, then you have to manually change your proxy IP address to 127.0.0.1 with port :9666 .

    Say NO to internet censorship!

  4. Hi Guys,

This is what Wong Chun Wai said about RPK in this blog"

"He is outspoken, daring and imaginative but he has little regard for accuracy. He doesn't give a damm about evidence but that is beside the point - he is entitled to his views."

Can you believe that. WCW, T Niamah!

  5. "It is being blocked because we found that some of the comments on the website were insensitive, bordering on incitement," he told Malaysiakini.

I recalled recently that it was reported that a teacher was hurling insensitive remarks and calling Indian student degratory names - She was promoted.

I remember Umno's televised General Assembly, Where the Kris was raise and not only insensitive remarks were uttered, members were also asking the Youth Cheif asking when does he intend to use his kris on the non-bumis - he is still the education minister

Sometime ago, in 1987, a then up and comming youth leader marched up to the Selangor Chinese Assembly halls, with banners screaming for Chinese blood, and raised kris by the mob leader, screaming and shouting incensitive and inciting hatred and murder, up to now, 21 years later, no reprimandation has happen - he is now the DPM.

    WHY ARE THEY NOT BLOCKED?

It seems, in Malaysia, 2 sets of laws applies, one set of laws applies to THEM and the other set of laws applies to the rest of us.

If MT is to be blocked for such "insensitive comments" and "inciting others", then these 3 listed example must also be blocked, they must be banished from this land.

  6. "..confirmed that the block was ordered by the commission."

Does that mean it was ordered by that philanderer who got a hefty sub-COMMISSION???

They still haven't learn anything after the by-election have they?

One thing I'm sure of. Dear Altantuya will not rest in peace until she exact revenge for her death. In case they don't know, it has already started..as in PP (Proactive Punishment).

This will be the final nail in the coffin for Barisan Nasional.

After that, the rakyat will cremate all of them and flush them down our sewers as stool.

They are not even worthy to be classified as trash as trash still have some value. So sewers is the best way incase some can be salvaged and recycled it we classify them as trash.

  13. If tmnet decides to block blogs big time, they can kiss goodbye to my RM88 subscription from 4 accounts.

I will boycott tmnet and hope others will do so. If they are reading this message, pls note this down. I will not tolerate people blocking and restricting my internet access. There are much more harmful things and issues u should block like child pornography, radical religious sites and deviationists and suicidal inciting websites.

  23. There are sufficient provisions in our laws for anyone aggrieved by blogger posting to sue for defamation, libel etc.

But the unilaterlal action by the MCMC in blocking our RPK's MalaysiaToday smacks of fear, high-handedness and a renegation of the promise by Dr.M that there will be no censorship in the internet.

It is the same mentality that will not let go of the ISA,OSA,PPA and Restricted Banishment Order and other repressive laws which have, and are being, applied Unconstitutionally.
