REQUISCAT IN PACE AUNTY KUAN.

I am in Kota Kinabalu and this morning Irene Kuan informed me that Aunty Kuan her mother passed away. I have known Aunty Kuan since the late 70s. She came into Karen's and my life when I was in Goodyear where I met the indefatigable Amy Kuan, her eldest daughter.

I would like to remember Aunty Kuan as the dutiful wife of Uncle 'Bulldog' Kuan of St. Paul's Institution (Seramban) fame. Aside: I suppose Discipline Masters gravitate to each other.

I also like to remember her as the caring mother of Amy, Irene, Eddie and Shirley.

I have to remember the times when she and I knocked down glasses after a hearty salutation like "Down the hatch."....which always accompanies a "dirty look" if the receptacle is not drained.

I need to remember her at auspicious occasions, alway decked in red cheong-sams and always smiling.....always concerned about almost everyone.

For my own good, I will have to remember how she carried herself throughout these few trying years fighting cancer. I hope I can learn from her, fortitude.

Finally, I will remember her as a hard-core MU fan. She never failed to wait up to catch an MU game. I have this needly feeling that after the recent double, she decided...."This is as good a time any any....it has been a good run, let's pack up and meet up with Uncle Kuan for a new round." That would be vintage Aunty Kuan.

I like to dedicate this posting to her memory and to Amy's tireless and selfless ministration during these trying years. I certainly will not forget the numerous visits made by Shirley, Irene and Eddie from London.

WE WILL ALL MISS AUNTY KUAN
(THIS BLOG WILL REMAIN SILENT FOR A FEW DAYS AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR AUNTY KUAN)
