ReplyDeleteVOTE WISELY IN THE COMING ELECTION
=====================================================
While walking down the street one day a Malaysian Boleh Minister is
tragically hit by a truck and dies.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."
"No problem, just let me in," says the man.
"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose
where to spend eternity."
"Really, I have made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Yang Berhormat
"I'm sorry, but we have our rules," says St. Peter.
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and dressed in the finest batik there is. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then indulge themselves on lobsters, caviar and the most expensive food there is.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.
"Now it' s time to visit heaven."
So, 24 hours pass with the Yang Berhormat joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St.Peter returns.
"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."
The Yang Berhormat reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think Ai yam better off in hell."
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren
land covered with waste and garbage.
He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.
"I don't understand," stammers the Yang Berhormat. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"
The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigningjust like you during an election...... Today you voted."

Michael Backmans Asia Future Shock
The internet is not turning out to be the threat to authoritarianism that it was supposed to be. Instead it will become a tool. With new filtering and monitoring technology, the worlds autocrats have an incentive to hasten the roll-out of internet. So rather than harm the prospects of internet companies like Google and Baidu, Asias authoritarian government will only add to their profitability. The Internet will remain the epoch-changing tool than it already is in the West. But in much of Asia, it looks likely that it will be just another state-controlled media outlet. It is consistent with the new Asia new economic freedoms but not political freedom.
Well, by boycotting MSM, you have fallen into the abyss of only knowing yourselves and not your enemies; while the enemies scan and scrutinize every single entry and comment in your blogs with due diligence. Do you think the problem will go away just because you chosen to bury your head into the ground to avoid the lies? Shouldnt it be wiser to encourage the printing of more misinformation in MSM and give the public an alternative media in the Internet. Just like what most of you have been doing well for the last few years. After a while, readers will discern the lies from the truth and competition will force changes. Boycott has always been and will always be just another political ploy. In the end, there is no gain but only the political glorifying of individuals who initiated the move. Boycotting will cause readers to take sides; so where is the force of unification? whispering9
Anon 6:18. thanks for your advice and concern. Ever heard of little bites...we will not swallow an apple whole...and it would be suicidal to eat the elephant whole too....give this little effort some space for it to move and to grow. Thanks again for your advice and concern.

ReplyDeleteTo follow on from Zorro, point taken, however I think everyone still keeps abreast of all the news, from whatever source.
The 'enemy' is known very well.
We can filter out the half truths, the lies and the other garbage.
The boycott of the MSM is not a 'head in the sand' tactic, but a way to irritate and create awareness.
Festine lente, hasten slowly with steadfast determination, that is the mantra of success.
I began the boycott already on printing press.
ReplyDeleteGeez…I am blushed by your response. You have many young and teen readers. When you say boycott, some of them might actually stop reading MSM forever. There are many articles and writings in MSM besides the political pieces. Nowadays, teenagers hardly ever touch the hard copies of news and we shouldn’t encourage them further just because there are lies, spins or half-truths in the papers. Ironically, I hope the e-print will supersede the hard prints in the future so that we can save our trees. But this is beside my point. I believe in exposing youngsters to lies and half-truths when we still have some influence on their opinion before some become dogmatic. Discernment of truths, lies and grey in-between are just part of learning to grow up wiser and more careful about opinion. Eventually, we recognize that between the black and white poles is more of the grey matter. I still think that many of bloggers are doing just those good things of educating and having queries without the real need of an actual boycott. Forgive my rambling in your space. Nonetheless, the decision is finally yours. Whispering9
