"WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR MALAYSIA?" JAKARTA BASED BLOGGER H C ONG (UNSPUN) ASKED ROCKY AND I LAST NIGHT!

KNOW SOMETHING PEOPLE? EVERY TIME PARLIAMENT SITS I UNEARTH NEW FOSSILS.

This piece above is the MP for Parit Sulong....he has a name but it is of no consequence.

This other fossilised piece above is MP for Sri Gading.....where this is, is again of no consequence either.

Until a few days ago I have never heard of these two characters. The ones you and I have heard about are the usual - the rat-brained slime-ball Sabahan, the one-eyed Jasin timber crook, the pervert who has tunnel vision everytime he sees a woman and who also condemns the disabled as cursed by God, the loud-mouth Minister of Taxis, and recently the tambi who fantasize about mud-wrestling with women MPs. These have already booked their crypt in our Tomb of Shame.

Then lo and behold (to borrow the infamous utterance of the recently retired CJ when he chanced upon wee K Lingam in the same New Zealand hotel dinning room), two insignificants came out of the rat-hole to rant and rave. Yes I know the election is around and they want another term but probably this is attention-seeking UMNO-style. So what did they contribute? Read here a translation of the proceedings in Parliament:

Tuan Syed Hood bin Syed Edros [Parit Sulong]: [Some unrelated stuff first] Yang Di-Pertua, I would like to touch on a matter regarding the Ministry of Education, which are Christian missionary schools like Convent, La Salle, Methodist, and so forth. I was made to understand that the Board of Directors at these schools are partially administered by churches in foreign countries, for example in the Vatican City. I was also made to understand that the application to build a ’surau’ in some of these schools had to go through the approval of these Board of Directors whereby they are partially administered by the church. Therefore, it shames me that the school administrations are still controlled by the church. I was also made to understand that many Muslim parents send their kids to these schools, and that they have complained that sometimes, the school is started with church songs. I do not know if this is true, but what I discovered from these parents are the display of religious symbols. I feel disappointed that in an Islamic country, Malaysia, if I go to a convent school, the statue of St. Mary is displayed in the front of the school.

Datuk Haji Mohamad bin Haji Aziz [Sri Gading]: [Stands up]

Tuan Syed Hood bin Syed Edros [Parit Sulong]: Please proceed, Yang Berhormat for Sri Gading.

Timbalan Yang di-Pertua [Datuk Dr. Yusof bin Yacob]: Yes, Yang Berhormat for Sri Gading.

Datuk Haji Mohamad bin Haji Aziz [Sri Gading]: I am not shocked at all, Yang Berhormat for Parit Sulong. It’s not just a simple question. The question is, why has this happened? One. During the last Hari Raya, I was told by a father, when Aidilfitri was celebrated, these types of schools were not closed. Thank you.

Tuan Syed Hood bin Syed Edros [Parit Sulong]: Not only statues, but fellow Yang Berhormat, go and see for yourselves, Christian crosses are displayed in front of schools. I do not understand the Ministry of Education, did the officers not see that, or is it our policy to allow such a thing? Nevertheless, I, as a responsible person to my religion, race, and country, I state my views that these statues need to be demolished, these crosses need to be destroyed and church influences in these schools need to be stopped. Also, the funds that are collected at these schools. Do we have a report? If possible, the ministry should reveal the funds for these schools. I was made to understand that these schools are also sponsored by the church.

If I was a lawyer I could easily fry their asses, ferment them, bottled and label as "hearsay" exhibits.

So what has our Deputy Prime Minister got to do with these two liliputians? Plenty, if you ask me. These two ignoramuses have just insulted DPM's former alma mater. He studied in a mission school, St. John's Institution, that is. Sir, I am sure you would want to say something to these two termites. Perhaps fumigate them out of Parliament.
And where does Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein fit in here. Plenty, as he is also a student of a mission school, also St. John's Institution. Moreover, these two creeps questioned his Ministry. Below are some pertinent points the UMNO Youth chief has been espousing that I would like to unselfishly share with the soon-to-be damned duo:

"Young leaders who make racial and religious statements to be popular with a particular community will not go far in a multiracial and multicultural Malaysia," said Barisan Nasional Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein. Anyone could make popular statements to gain popularity from a particular race or to gain support from their delegates, but their popularity would be short-lived, he said. (You heard that you dungoos,)

"They must be far-sighted because when it is time for them to be selected as ministers or party presidents, they must not only be smart, they have to be wise too." (These two can't smell those positions ....they are far from smart and by the gods where did UMNO pick these misfits from.....parits?)

He noted that the top leadership was mature enough to know who was sincere, honest and had held to the Barisan principle of multiracialism. (Thank You Sir, for this gem.....spoken like a true Johanian.)

"The top leadership will not forget – and in a multiracial Malaysia the people will also not forget – those who have taken advantage to be popular for short-term gains," he said after attending the opening of the 19th Gerakan Youth and Wanita national delegates conference.

The top leadership would not select those who fought for only one race, and

"Their future will be tainted, and that applies to all young leaders who have aspirations to be national leaders," he said.

To the two former mission schools old boys I dedicate to them their former school anthem:

Cheer, cheer, and courage display

All ye Johanian, join in the fray,

Send the volley of cheers from high,

Shake down the thunder from the sky.

What though the odds be great or small,

Dear old St. John's will win over all

All our loyal sons go marching,

Onwards to victory,

SAINT JOHN'S.

  4. Bernard,

In La Salle Brickfields, the first classroom as you enter the school is a mini-surau (prayer room) for the Muslims. The MP who complained can say his prayers there. Parliament House is not too far away. He can drive and say his prays and then observe the condition of the school. Pathetic.

However lately, some good corporate guys are helping to paint the school and repair the roofs etc. Will the said MP help to get more funds for the school as the majority of the students here are his Muslim brothers.

  5. I am a Muslim, in my opinion, the MPs Parit Sulong and Seri Gading are pathetic examples of Muslims in particular and humanity in general.
What are they trying to do?
The general election (or according to Zam, the erection) is around the corner, so I suppose they want to be regarding as UMNO stalwarts.
In fact they are really just hideous warts which are disfiguring the nation.
Why get cross about the crosses, unnerved about the Virgin Mary?
The convent schools are an asset to our education system, long may they remain here in Malaysia.
One wonders if we will hear any of the UMNO gang of '40 thieves' ranting and raging about some Teddy Bear, which has been named 'Muhammed', 'Adam', 'Musa', 'Ibrahim', or whatever, by some innocent child, as was the case in Sudan.
Malaysia is degenerating so fast, God help the future generations of Malaysians.

1st they demolished indian temples - and the non-indians just stood by and watch.

and now, they are thinking of whacking the christians' centre of excellence in human development - and if we the non-christians still do nothing.

then the chinese better get ready if you still choose to do nothing.
Cos it won't be funny when they set upon your temples and there was no one left to notice it.

    Thanks for your inputs.

In an electronic factory where I did some retainer work, a Muslim worker approached me to inform me that the management was about to take away the surau because they needed the floor space to bring in an equipment for a new product. I got him and a lady muslim employee and together we went to see the MD and Production Director. Management's rationale was that they needed the big floor space that housed the surau. They also complained that the surau was a place for malingering, sleeping and socialising and only a small number were using the surau. Management were able to provide documentation prove on their monitoring of the surau usage. Management had identified another smaller room to replace the existing surau. We all went to have a look at the designated room. The two muslim employees agreed that the room was sufficient for the purpose. I suggested to management to install a wash area. They saw no problem in that request. Management showed signs of delivery because the next morning I saw contractors working on the wash area and the room.
No management would go the extreme to take away or demolish a place of worship. Negotiating and compromise always helps. Yes we got the imam of the nearest mosque to dedicate the new surau. Thanks again guys/gals.

Thanks, Kenny. Please let us know exact url and page #.

There is hope! It is enlightening to know at least one BN MP wasn't Sleeping in Seattle... opps, Dewan Rakyat; and tried to address the subject. I was about to ask how come NONE of the MPs from BN or BA said anything to refute MP Parit Sulong at that 29 October meeting. The person who politely told him/her to shut up should also be sacked.

"Unrelated matters"?? As and when it is convenient? As i see it, there is a whole lot of gibberish and unrelated matters in the entire proceedings similar to a fish market. No, i take that back... the fish monger is more organized than that.

All MPs should undergo a course on "How to Conduct Effective and Productive Meetings", in addition to passing an exam on the Constitution of Malaysia AND take care of their own portfolios and constituencies assigned.

    > on religious tolerance:

Synonyms of the word "tolerance" are broadmindedness, open-mindedness, lenience, acceptance, forbearance, patience; unfortunately with the current low standard of English, the majority may understand it as “tolerate” which has a negative connotation to it, as in put up with, endure, bear… I suggest we replace the word “tolerance” with “respect”.

    > We shouldn’t taint the entire Malay population with the same brush, despite the very unprofessional conduct of our two MPs.

Very true. The same applies to the Government. Not all are ignorant and can’t see beyond their noses. E.g. Our Prime Minister and he is being sabotaged from within – a corrupt adminstration. But that’s another story. Back to education, I see Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and his Education Ministry making positive changes in the education system. He is under a lot of pressure to revert the policy on using English for Mathematics and Science subjects. Thank God he is determined to stay on course. Read http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/11/25/focus/19547648&sec=focus and http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/11/28/nation/19592193&sec=nation.

Another criteria for MPs - they should be selected from mission schools. As the rakyat, we should come out with a checklist the caliber of MPs we want. OK, I’m getting carried away. This should be on another thread.

    > I’m sure the Catholic Brothers and Sisters will be very disappointed with such attitude.

Thank you for the gentle reminder, Ronin. Let’s keep our respective mission school flags flying high. :)

  23. They are raising their smoke screens again aren't they Zorro? Playing and harping on irrelevant issues and the divide and rule game whilst diverting attention from their ineptness and squandering.......

Malaysians have been surprisingly going to the ballot boxes year in and year out voting in an incumbent that does not seem to be able to administrate competently. The list of their follies is long and we are famous for throwing money down the drain. 275,000,000 barrels per year (that's our current oil production stats) at USD95.00 per barrel and 60 billion cubic metres of gas per annum(our current gas production stats) at USD0.25 per cubic metre are equal to USD 41,125,000,000.00. That's USD 41 Billion or RM143 Billion in revenues per annum in just these two resources. Are we debating the allocation of these resources? Are we getting decent health care, education and housing with all this wealth? No instead we debate about crosses on schools. Singapore with NO natural resources to speak off has in one generation achieved that. That is developed nation status

Malaysians are slowly becoming aware that the divide and rule mentality has served only to enrichen the pockets of a few. The bulk of Malaysians are still poor without decent homes and or amenities. And the divide and rule mentality has had an unfortunate spin off with polarisation now so endemic that Malaysians are frightened to even look at each other in the eye. This has resulted in major social problems such as crime. A close knit integrated society will not tolerate what is happening here such as street crime, but most people here just shrug off what they read in the news and just hope it happens to someone else. A simple fact, I smile and nod at everyone I happen to make eye contact with. It's the civil thing to do and is a mark of a cultured civil society. Most times other Malaysians just turn their heads away in response....

Howard got kicked out despite the longest growth in economic prosperity Australia has ever seen. They kicked him out because they felt his policies and his stand on certain issues were wrong. Our Government hasn't even come close to achieving their economic success and as for doing anything considered remotely right.......

  24. what about the sleeping fossil who runs our country, when will he be go into extinction? Year 2020? still a long long way..

    ReplyDelete
  25. CONTRARY to what these 2 "famous wanna be" fossils said, my children goes to Convent school now and these are my comments: the only traces of Christianity was it was built by the Christians more than 90 years ago with some Christian characteristics and yes the cross is still there. But then, it was built in the early 1900s. Apart from a hand few Chinese and Indian teachers, 90% of the teachers are Malay. It is just like any other normal schools, except this one has a very long and old history, and its a very very old building which we should be proud of.Religious classes are conducted just like any other school.

What I see is this trend: current Ministers acting as clowns and buffons, and the rest want to jump in the bandwagon, to create controversies and nonsense so that someone know them too, or maybe they just make a jackass of themselves so we can blog about them. Well, bad publicity is better than NO publicity I guess, at least it deserved some mentioned in this blog, which probably made them extremely happy. They'll probaby be sharing notes with "other famous" clowns: "see, saya pun dapat publisiti, sama macam awak". Welcome to the world of Dumb and Dumber, it's real actor Jim Carrey would have been so proud of them.

  26. Bro,

I am a government pensioner with two grandsons. I was educated at the La Salle Brothers administered St Xavier's Institution, Penang. I was not in any way influenced or wooed to be a Christian convert for the whole seven years attending school. In fact, the Christian Brothers respected Islam and treated Muslim students fairly and with respect. Yes, there is a cross in front of each classroom, it did not bother us at all.

Every morning the Christian and some non-Muslim students attended scripture class and others the moral education class.

When I was in Form Four, I took the initiative to seek the school director's (Brother James) asistance to enable a total of 15 Muslim students (Forms 4 and 5)to attend Islamic class. Since it was not practical to do so with only 15students, Bro James took the initiative to seek the State Education Department's permission for us to join the neighbouring Light Street Convent's class. There were Islamic studies classes at the Convent led by a female teacher (Ustazah). We were more than happy to join the Convent girls for obvious reasons. I duly attended the class conducted three times a week for two years.

I also would like to put on record that the Christian Brothers, mostly French-Canadian and Irish nationals, were dedicated teachers. Bro James, Bro Charles, Bro Casimir, Bro Michael (Lau Hor) to name a few. The best as far as I am concerned.

It is sad to note that after 50 years of nationhood, there are Malaysians including Honourable Members of Parliament who have yet to grow up! What can I say ... f.o.!

  27. Syed, I was caught reading Zane Grey in class during science period (Lau Hor - old tiger in Hokkien)Lau Hor came from the back whilst on his regular rounds. He suspended me from school just two weeks before the cambridge exam. I never did so much revision during the two weeks. If not for the two weeks suspension I may not have passed the Cambridge Certicicate (Form 5) exam. Those Brothers were exemplary teachers, who left their country of origin - Ireland, France, Canada - as missionaries to start the mission schools. So did the foreign Catholic nuns and the methodist, anglican missions, and the Mill Hill Fathers and Marists Brothers in Sabah and Sarawak.

The Brothers who taught me in St. Xaviers were Bro. Felix, Bro. Hyacinth, Bro. Columba, Bro. Fridolin, Bro. Charles, and of course Bro. Michael (lau hor) who was the IGP of St.Xaviers. Except for the old tiger, all the above played great football.

Have not seen you for sometime, brother. Your son was the most visible on the first day Rocky and Jeff were in court in Denmark House. My regards and respect to him please.
