IN THE MEXICAN CHAMBER THIS WEEK.

YOU CAN'T GET AWAY WITH SERVING A BRAHMIN CHICKEN (ask MAS) BUT YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH GRABBING LAND FROM THE POOR AND GET STAR BILLING (ask STARMETRO) FOR THE GRAB.

Today, into the Mexican Fart Chambers, I put Star's Wong Chun Wai...but it is his choice to empower the reporter cum photographer Elan Perumal, to replace him.

I have never been a Star reader until lately to protest against NST. I was beginning to enjoy reading Verapandian and Marina's Musings. However, today I might think of migrating again. Not that it will bring down their stocks, but like Marina said we think we are the silent majority because we beleive that.....not anymore though.

Today, STAR glorified the land-grabber, the obnoxious Datuk Zakaria Mat Deros, beloved of the Menteri Besar, and canonised his efforts for doing something for the environment. It is just like raping somebody and then donating a chastity belt to the victim. He was shown "tending" to plants in his garden. Star even reported that this character's love for nature has led him to want to plant a few hundred plants around his soon-to-be-ready house at Kampung Idaman. Is this the same palace that was built without authorisation?
See, HE COULD GET AWAY WITH IT! and the Star has the story.

Hantu perched on my shoulder whispered something cruel into my ears: Zorro, those plants came from the council nursery...some from his machais....few from Port Klang cronies.

Was he really tending to his garden with his wife (are those gardening attire?) or was it a Star's cheap PR promotion shot to fill the space? I just wonder. Everyday has its mysteries. The stunts some people pull to sell papers. Twinke (Star) whilst you can while the Sun gives you the ability to.

Question: Is the Star so impoverished news-wise that it has to choose so loosely?Tiew!

  1. The Star will do anything to make money. The Star has no principles but who cares when it makes a few hundred million a year and its employees get nine months bonus. As for NST, very sad. NST's philosophy is style mahu, lose money tak apa. NST really bodoh, STAr very smart.

  3. Yes sir, my maiden comment. I wanted to post comments in the past but found it cumbersome to register. i have always admired the way you delve into issues. Written in good and concise english, not to mention a dash of humour. I enjoy your stuff, keep it up man.

  5. There are lots of news out there in the nation to be reported. Too much work, ah? A heartfelt story of a struggling ordinary Malaysian would have been a better read. He/she may even get help from a caring nation.

  6. Hello Mr Zorro Del Vega,

Let me CORRECT you on a
    few points!

    1. The DOG is me, not you! You cannot claim yourself to be "an old dog". You are an old folk hero, but not "an old dog". The canine in the premier Malaysian bloggosphere is me, BigDogDotCom :)

I am also the President of Federation of Horny Dogs On the Net , Malaysian Chapter.

    2. Dato Zakaria Deros did not get "authorisation" for his "illegally" erected mansion. I think the right word you should use is "approval".

"Authorisation" is if the building used Government funds and the person who allowed the funds to be used get not get proper authorisation like MB's consent, State Assembly endorsement etc.

    Woof, woof

  7. Big Dog, Zorro stands corrected, since you have not given APPROVAL for the use of your monopoly of DOG and AUTHORIZATION is only proper if lesser beings like us have the tendency to make reference to anything canine.GROWLLLLLLLLL.(this is allowable since dogs dont growl, they snarl...no?)

  8. Hmmm...This is a little comment on The Star...Just my two cents...

I hate to admit it, but yes, Star is beginning to become very tabloid-y...They (mostly main paper) highlight news that are not exactly worth highlighting anymore...

The environmental tributes for example...While I laud their environmental efforts, I find that Star has a tendency to hype on certian things for weeks on end...Like the Tsunami...All news came to a halt because all they reported was about the tsunami for over 3 weeks! They really need to balance it out...

Like this recent environmental pledge: Some are just lame, and really off the rocket...

I think it is a matter of trying to do too much to try and prove they still have it...

After all, they've been getting great reviews for quite a while, and suddenly, ideas become jaded and don't pour in so much, and they need to come up with something better and better...

I guess it's because it isn't gradual...After all, if you go from say, flying from KL to Singapore, to suddenly going to the moon, what more can you achieve which is greater? (Mentality that bigger means better)

They forget it's the little things that count, and they've forgotten that between KL-Singapore and the moon, there's lotsa more in between...

And really, The Star is The People's Paper...Shouldn't it be about the people?

  9. The Star is in the biznes of selling newspapers and I suppose at times morals and ethics be damned.

I know this Zakaria fellow personally and had blogged about him in the past. Read "Rich Poltician, Poor Politician" here : "http://cyusof.blogspot.com/2006/11/rich-politician-poor-politician.html

  12. Star make money, NST want to make money.. NST used to be a newspaper, now a Used-Newspaper (used by who? u might ask). Because always cover up for some interesting characters, but not all characters. Star makes all characters happy characters.. NST almost just like Star now, but not there yet.. But Star still making money, NST don't know how to make money.. On top of that, NST slowly losing out on how to make news... (Check out the back pages during the F1 Canada and US grand prix)...

Funny how this is such an interesting rivalry....
