HOW DO I BEGIN TO TELL THE STORY OF......

Yes. It is just 24 hours after my arrest….and I am still wondering how to begin. No definitely there was no trauma in the arrest.

OK, I have decided to let the pics tell the story, with a brief narrative when appropriate.

+++++

The Whisperer (Duke), Haris and I arrived at the Grand Galaxy Hotel, where some of the Special Bunch ( the Admiral, Rodi, Mila, Danny, Ariff, Nanda, and the Sinister 15kilometer walker OBE)were bunked. at 5:20am. Another Bunch (Dave, Eric, Sonny, Paul, Robert Choo, Bob Foo and Benz) found abode in another hotel.

We found out later that most of the PR Aduns were also bunked in the same hotel and that they will gather here and proceed to the State Secretariat.

Jong met us at 7:00am with Anil Netto. By 8:15am the YBs had gathered at the front. Chong Eng came to wish them the best. When Datuk Seri Nizar appeared I took the opportunity to go up to him to wish him all the luck he needed. He asked me to convey his thanks to the Barisan Rakyat Bloggers led by RPK.

As the YBs left in convoy, escorted by outriders, we walked to the Secretariate along the riverbank.
There was a crowd gathering at the back of the secretariat. But it was not a huge intimidating crowd. The barbed-wire barricade prevented any intrusion onto the road. We wandered around.
This group mingled with the crowd. It was so obvious who they were. They really looked the part

The crowd-size increased and at around 8:20am an Indian FRU officer barked on his bull-horn. He reminded us about the 500 metre rule and asked us to move back. We were all obediently behind the barricade and moving back means into the eatery. That was what he meant so why did they not have the barricade in front of the eatery so that none of us could gather in that open space.

Nathaniel Tan beckoned me to move with him into the nasi kandar outlet. I turned round to follow him and that was when somebody held my left arm and said gently: "Follow me blogger and please cooperate." His grip on me was not aggressive and I complied.

Fortunately, he was the one who arrested me and not the goon below (left) whom I witnessed doing what he does best.
I repeatedly asked my arresting-officer why he was arresting me. He did not answer me but repeatedly told me to cooperate. I did. I was not handcuffed whilst most of those arrested were. I wonder why? I was the first to go up the waiting black maria truck. However, along the way I saw The Voice and waved at him. He responded. When I was in the truck he gestured to me to have a photo taken. He was prevented by an officer. But I was wondering how he was permitted around the restricted zone? But not wondering now.....of no consequence. The pics below are the people who shared the black maria with me.

All of us were led across this narrow ledge over a monsoon drain. I had to be very careful at my age.

I met this Taiping guy at around 6:10am in front of the hotel. He had come into town with 15 Taiping friends. Salute Taipingites.

I also met Chong outside the hotel at around 6:00am in front of the hotel.

PICS BELOW WERE THOSE WHO WERE THE FIRST BATCH TO BE ARRESTED?
WHY?
THEY WERE CARRYING PICTURES OF THE AGONG.
THAT IS NOW AN OFFENCE?

AND THEN THEY WENT FOR THE BIG FISHES!
I FIGURED MY SECOND BATCH TO BE ARRESTED
BELONGS TO THE FRY CLASS.
YB SALLEHUDIN AYUB, PAS YOUTH CHIEF AND MP OF KUBANG KERIAN

PARIT BUNTAR MP, MUJAHID YUSOF RAWA

JANICE LEE, TERETAI ADUN

DR. JEYA WHO ENDED SAMY'S HOLD ON SUNGEI SIPUT, BEFORE HIS ARREST. WHILST HE WAS BEING ARRESTED
CPI COLUMNIST HELEN ANG WENT UP TO GREET HIM.
SHE TOO WAS ARRESTED....YOUR BLACK TEES LAH DARLING.

TIAN CHUA, THE LAST OF THE BIG ONES ARRESTED. BESIDE HIM WAS
SELAYANG MP WILLIAM LEONG. THEY IGNORED HIM. WILLIAM MET ME AT MY
RELEASE AND TOLD ME THAT THAT WAS SELECTIVE PERSECUTION.

ALSO ARRESTED WAS PKR WANITA CHIEF, ZURAIDA KAMARUDDIN

When the catch was depleting they went into the eating shops (two)

But they sure missed one very big fish here!

PROCESSING THE 65 ARRESTED

Processing us was done in the badminton/recreation hall of the FRU Contingent camp in Pulau Senam. When our name was called we had to give all details to a recording policeman. Every detail from my trusty wheel to the name of my deceased father. It was a real tooth-comb once-over. Then we had our mug-shot taken. I held up my card which read: OPS SIDANG and below it my number 3019.....dang I forgot to buy this number! Maybe I wait for some special draw? I asked the photographer if I could purchase a copy for my grandchildren to prove that my government said I was a felon. He said, tak boleh uncle. Period. There goes another part of my life, with no record.

Then we waited for hours before being interviewed by Special Branch Officers. Mine was an ASP who rose from the ranks. I had a great time chatting and picking each others brains. Invariably, the interview was punctuated by asking if I belonged to any political party or NGOs. I told my interogator that I was a live member of MCA but tore up my card when I spoke at the ceremah on 7 March 2008. I think ASP enjoyed my company. I enjoyed his company anyway and I told him, "If only more thought like you". His last question to me was, "Why do you participate in all these?" "For better governance and a better Malaysia."

Let me put on record before I proceed. The police personnel in the hall were very professional in their job. They were polite. They made us feel relaxed. They fed us well and there was enough drinking water throughout the day. Only two grated me. A chinese lady 3 pip officer. I asked her if she could be less bossy. She avoided me the rest of the day. The other was a malay lady officer who was indecisive and tardy in giving us our release paper. The rest were good. I salute them. But the toilet however leaves much to be desired. Period.

Before we got our release paper we went through another round with the Investigating Officer (IO). All details were recorded again. It was stifling hot in the hall. Most heavy-duty fans were in need of repair. One could get hot and bothered because you were not allowed outside and had to be escorted to the toilet. Earlier on I tried to sneak out to get a puff but was stopped and I was told I could smoke inside the hall. Halleluya.....yes some of you were asking one another if I could enjoy my pipe. I did guys.

It was 4:51pm when I was given my Surat Perjanjian dan Jaminan Kepada Polis Diraja. I am to report on 04 June, when they will decide on what to do with the 65 of us. Anyway, whilst fishing last night, a lawyer friend promised to drive me and Helen to Ipoh on 4 June.

PEOPLE, THANKS FOR THE GOOD WISHES

KIND THOUGHTS

AND PRAYERS.

THE UNIFORMED POLICE

KEPT US SAFE AND ASSURED.
(But not the ones in Brickfields HERE)

I CANT SAY THE SAME FOR THE

NON-UNIFORMED THUGS UNDER

POLIS DI RAJA MALAYSIA.

+++++

Dang, collecting and planning the sequence of the photos have suddenly
brought about some thirst.
Meeting the bunch for some fishing tales.
Wah, that big one ah?

I'm so glad you told the interrogating officer that you are an activist "for a better Malaysia." That should give him some food for thought. I'm even gladder that you and your fellow detainees are safe and sound.

Good to have u back in one piece. I read that u were arrested but I did not see any footnote when u were released so I was preparing a special posting "where is Zorro" when i stumbled on ur release in Antares's blog.

I guess they don't go after a voice because the cops did not recognise him and never notice him in sak's posting...cause they are too awed with Tun M standing next to a voice...

maybe u could go up the stage tomorrow and recount ur first hand experience...:)

Oh Zorro! When I got the info, I sent a prayer to God!

I know you can take care of yourself but you never can get enough of spiritual help.

I'm really glad you are all right and none the worse for having gone through something so unnecessary.

Hugs for you!

Thanks for being there at ground zero, for representing Malaysians for a better Malaysia. I'm glad you're safe and sound, we hope that this does not cause any further duress and disruptions.

I had viewed your arrest on Mkini video online and wondered if the PDRM did the right thing by you as they seemed to be quite rough with some of the 'law breakers'.

I salute you, Zorro for being a shining example of one who is making a differnce for a better Malaysia for the sake of our children.

Yes, you got detained but so have Gandhi, Mandela & a host of freedom fighters in history because of what they believed - a just and better country for their countrymen.

Uncle Zorro, welcome back, I am happy and relieve that you are back in one piece.

Your noble effort and the time sacrificed in the office of the PDRM did not go to the waste. History will record your contribution to achieve a better governance and a better Malaysia as you mentioned to the ASP.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It's great 2 see u safe n sound,Bernard
I was worried when I heard u were the 1st 2 be arrested yesterday morning
Good thing u were treated in proper fashion by the police

Hopefully we'll see u 2morrow at that ISA debate in PJ
The rakyat including myself would like 2 hear from these Pewaris idiots on y ISA is still relevant

I'm a Malay Muslim myself n it makes stomach churned upon hearin these zealots claimin ISA is needed 2 preserve the sanctity of Islam

Last I check, most Kamunting tenants r Muslims taken away from their families n hav not the slightest idea on what grounds r they detained
So who the hell r they 2 come wit such reprehensible remark?

Wit most of their proposals turned down, I'm not surprised they'll pull out at the last minute
Further proves they're cowardly chickens

My previous comment is a littel off topic
So, I'm postin another

What happened at Perak yesterday was a travesty of justice n law of the jungle at its best

The way YB Sivakumar was literally dragged out of the hall in an uncivilized manner will be included in black history of this country n rank alongside the 98 incident where Anwar was unceremoniously sacked from the government n thrown in jail

All it takes is another black eye incident, maybe this time 2 Sivakumar n UMNO/BN can kiss their asses goodbye not only in the eyes of the rakyat but also in the eyes of the international community

13th GE maybe years away but the time 2 plan our war strategies is now!

i am glad that the arresting officer was kind. equally glad that you felt u were treated well by the police.

it just goes to show that you cannot generalise the force simply because of 1 or 2 characters, or if teresa kok says she was fed dog food.

I hope this provides us all with a new insight.

anyway zorro, i was shocked to learn about the black tshirt day and even more shocked when i saw the recording of what was said at the press conference to announce it. the opposition is treading on very dangerous ground my friend. it's a great idea to have people wear black on a particular day in mark of democracy but to have them gather is an entirely different story. very dangerous and explosive and i am thankful it did not get out of hand.

and if i may ask, where were rpk, anwar ibrahim, wan azizah, the pas big boys, etc that day? kit siang was there but was prevented from entering...did he stay on? and was karpal there? i would assume they would be in the collection of photos but they were not.

cheers.

Anonymous said...

and by the way, those guys at the eatery truly did not understand the concept of wearing black.

Welcome back, Uncle Zorro! Glad to see you free and that you haven't been roughed up. May your thirst be quenched and hunger satiated! You've certainly earned the trip to the wharf many times over today.

PS: What was it that they did to you exactly? Doesn't sound like an arrest; you weren't charged with anything, and you were released just like that (not that it's anything new in Malaysia, but still).

Starmandala said...

Shucks! Missed all the fun & games...
Frankly, Zorro, I'm just very relieved no skulls were cracked open & no chemically induced tears were shed. The arrests were totally unnecessary, of course. Problem with official authority, once you've got it you just have to flaunt it. I think Musa Hassan has a death wish. How else do you explain why - with every heavy-handed kurang ajar move - the man seems hellbent on making more people despise the police & resolve to vote BN out?

I'm inclined to feel that whatever happened on May 7th is part of the process of gradual (as opposed to violent & abrupt) change. I know gradual is boring but it's not as painful & traumatic as blood on the streets.

Anonymous said...

The reason you were not handcuffed was you're an old man.Hope you remember that. The police are being kind.

Sklau said...

Good to know you're back safe and sound.

Any arresting officers with a sound mind would have known by now that your mission has always been "For better governance and a better Malaysia." It would be idiotic to mistreat a patriot, and a very senior citizen at that.

Maybe they too understand that you're also fighting for the sake of their children's future. Cuffing you would have been a grave mistake had you trip and injured yourself at your age.

As for those goons who don't even have a strand of moral value, I have this to say. YOU CRETINS ARE BOOKS WITH EMPTY PAGES BOOKMARKED ON EVERY LEAF WITH CURRENCIES OF ILL GOTTEN GAINS. THE BOUNDED PAGES LAUGH'TH OVER.

We were so happy to see you are safe. A couple of remarks though:

"I repeatedly asked my arresting-officer why he was arresting me. He did not answer me"
The police has to tell you why you are arrested. What do they have to hide, they enforce the law, right? Unless it is all about doing BN's bidding. Self-demonstrates, right?

"along the way I saw The Voice [...] But I was wondering how he was permitted around the restricted zone?"
As usual, double-standards in BN kingdom. Official invitees (YB Sungai Siput, Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur) cannot get in. BN stooges (bloggers like a Voice, SB) can. Rule of Law under BN.

"1 BLACK MALAYSIA. DEMOCRACY FIRST. ELECTIONS NOW."

1. The fight for better Malaysia is regardless of color skin and location.

2. Maybe you do not know how to count, that is why you said 99% arrested are non malays.

3. If Martin Luther King is alive today, you would have asked him to shut up because you think he is pushing the limit of 70% of USA population and he does not represent the South, but Martin Luther King is actually fighting for a better USA for 100% of USA citizens regardles of skin color and location.

4. It is a pity that Martin Luther King is not around anymore, but Obama is still around, you can ask your BN Prime Minister to tell your opinion to Obama, if your BN Prime Minister has the balls.
