8:25 The Insider reported voter turnout as uninspiring......Penang people must have breakfast before anything.

9:03 Lina: Voters are still slowly streaming in. Traffic is unhurried. Don't know when pace will pick up. So far no untooward incident.

9:12
Kak Wan is at Yayasan Aman meeting well wishers and supporters of PKR.

9;30 Turnout will peak later and when that happens roadblocks will occur for phantom votes to get easy passage to the polling stations. I wonder if that will happen. It happened in PP, KT and the two Bukits.

Taking a break.....

10:27
linasoo: At Sg Lembu Hakka Village, a lot of absent Voters as they are all working outstation.

(This is a childish excuse....our people still do not understand the sanctity of the vote. If they are overseas I can understand, but if they are in Peninsular, there is no excuse.....it is a weekend.)*
*my comments in parenthesis.

11:00
EC secretary Ngah Senik revealed that after three hours of voting, 3,590 people have voted.

11:20
Pakatan leaders, including Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang were seen visiting polling centres.

12:53
linasoo: Sg Lembu voter out approx 60% as at 12:30 pm. It is now picking up

12:54
linasoo: At Berapit only 190 turnout to vote

(60% of 509 is pretty good, despite earlier report that people are not coming back to vote.)

(Berapit turnout is worrisome....there are 1461 eligible voters there)

more chatting at Lina's than ground-zero updates!
VIVEG what is happening?

1:40 EC says now 4,593 voters or 29.86pct cast ballots by noon.

Polls observers say heavy police presence unnecessary, seen as intimidation & defying international norms. But we don't expect anything different, do we?

UMNO'S HIDDEN HAND AT WORK

Reports of missing names in the electoral rolls. What does it tell you? UMNO's invisible hands
? Who says UMNO is not in this by-election?

State police chief Ayub Yaakub meanwhile warned supporters against organising a victory parade when the result was announced.

Polls watchdog Malaysians for Free and Fair Elections (Mafrel) today complained that PKR party workers were breaching election laws by carrying out tacit campaigning on the polling day.

Come off it, BK Ong.....I'd rather you watch for phantom voters
than monitor cars, banners, and counting centre, etc. Don't be petty and nit-pick on trivial matters. Go after the cheats like missing names in families that live and eat together under one roof. Ever heard of my chamber?

4:30

EC says voter turnout at 4pm is 44.36pct or 6824 voters. Another 30 minutes before polling closes.

7:40

Mansor 6268
(He has won 88-75% of vote cast)
5,732 majority
Nai 534
Minah 390
(less 620 votes lose deposit)
Kamarul 48

PKR's Dr Mansor Othman wins with 5732 majority, double Fairus' 2219. Won 32 out of 33 streams, lost only postal votes. 2 minutes ago

HARI SABTU SNIPPETS

AUTUMN IN BRISBANE

The autumn weather in Brisbane must be doing RPK heaps of good. He is churning out invigorating stuff like UMNO lawyer Shafee caught with his pants down. Much, much better than the 24 series.

To Pete and Marina I dedicate this song from the Joan Crawford film of the same name. (Letting out a little secret….I had my first date with ML at Taiping’s Lido Cinema to watch Autumn Leaves. Of course nothing happened. You don’t want to get a girl pregnant by holding her hands, would you?)

Last night, TV Smith took time off to knock down a few beers with me and ex-Star sub-editor Vanitha at the Wharf. He had been on this rescue mission for the past three week. I featured this rescue operations earlier HERE,

What TV related to me is featured in today’s Star. HERE.

SHOULD I HANTAM THE BISHOP OF PENANG?

The NutGraph reported this recently:

Eighteen families who have lived for nearly 100 years on the land inside the Saint Francis Xavier church grounds in Penang face a bleak future after they were told to vacate the premises. Their plight was highlighted in Makkal Osai on 30 April in a front-page story titled Where will we go? Eighteen families in distress.

"We have lived here for more than four generations. The church sent us a notice via its lawyers ordering us to vacate the premises by 30 May," said Anthony Muthu, the spokesperson for the families, who number around 100 people.

The people are not angry with the church for sending them eviction notices. They are just saddened that despite repeated requests for a meeting with Catholic Bishop Anthony Selvanayagam to discuss this problem, the bishop has refused. "This is why we had to go public by inviting the press to highlight our problem," said Anthony Muthu.

The families expressed hope that the church would let them live in their houses permanently.

Over the years I have heard numerous incidents involving this recalcitrant man of the cloth. I happened to be in Penang when he transferred a very popular priest because the priest did not agree with him.

Demolishing temples is bad enough! Isn’t eviction just as bad?

And before some bishop-loving Catholics accuse me of lack of respect for a man of God let me put it simply and bluntly: More so a man of God should EARN respect. Clerical stature means nothing if one puts oneself before one’s disadvantaged flock.

Is this the case of the Shepherd (a bishop’s crosier symbolizes that he is a shepherd of his flock) determined to arbitrary evict some of his elderly sheep?

Before I HANTAM him, I need him to meet those involved.

You are nowhere near God, so I am not asking you to have mercy on those elderly.

Be humble Monsignor!

HELP SAVE THIS AUTISM CENTRE....PLEASE

Dear Uncle Zorro

I have a Little Angel, my 2-year nephew, who has been diagnosed with mild Autism late last year.

With recent reporting how autistic children being treated abusively at the NASUM Centre(tied to chairs as they could be hyperactive), it is HIGH time to save this centre as I want to send my Little Angel there.

Dear Uncle Zorro, theres one sure-fire business strategic we have here in Malaysia. Give bad service at gomen-supported centres (just like our schools), the service providers will become very enterprising, offering their service outside the business hours(read: tuition classes).

So, i know how it feels for Mr Shiok Guy to call for this SOS. We do not wish these gifted kids to succumb to unwarranted stupidity we thought they are and definitely being abused for their limitations.

There a lot of studies showing how genius they could be in IT, engineering and architectural discipline. Some even in sports (theres a report on Micheal Phelps having mild case of autism). They could make a difference in this world, if they were given chances.

It must be made known that autistic cases in malaysia are increasing each years. The medical and therapetic expertise are limited and most of the time, the specialists hang their coats to become a salesman, looking for donations to fund these centres.

I truly believe everyone has his special place in this world. Please lend your compassion to this SOS call.

THIS IS A SPECIAL GUEST BLOGGER: SHIOK GUY

My regular visitor and BLOGGER, SHIOK GUY urgently needs whatever help we can provide. This is his plea:

SOS! Autism Centre Closing Down - 14 June 2009

Both my sons are suffering from acute form of autism, and they have been going to this centre for the past few months. This centre was funded by a businessman via charity donation. Hence it has been offered as free service to those parents who cannot afford the full commercial service. I am one of those parent who need Early Intervention Program and cannot afford it.

The centre was headed by a very experience teacher in autism management and intervention. He is a retiree and if he left this job I don't think he will be actively working for the good of autistic kids again. I want to secure his service and take over the operation of the centre. I have the business experience and also autism management experience to turn this around.

We are not going to provide a free for all kind of services, but will be very affordable. We will have a trust fund setup to help those who cannot afford to pay for the service. Time is running out, 14 June 2009 is the deadline for the centre to cease operation.

Why am I here asking for help? I have no other way to go and seeking the help from whoever I can get my hand on to. We need the following: -

1. Premise - prefer a corner lot house with some garden area where we can setup sand and water therapy area.

2. Musical - Since autistic kids are very artistic and musically inclined, I want to setup some musical class to explore their potential. Any good working Piano or Electronic piano are needed. Can Yamaha donate some? Anyone who know someone in Yamaha?

3. Art - Art supply for painting and others

4. Renovation - Can some good soul help to pay for the renovation and furnishing of the centre?

5. Telecommunication - Telephone, Fax and Internet access

6. Funding - We need at least one year of funding before we can be self funded. I will work out the requirement once we have more people come into play and willing to help

7. Teaching material - I have plenty in my house becasue both my sons are autistic and I have invested over the years.

Anyone can help me to published all the above? I have 2 weeks to put thing together before they closed it down. 20 kids will be affected if the centre is closed down without giving them an alternative to go.

Regards
Shiok Guy

PEOPLE, THINK ABOUT THIS OVER THE WEEK-END.

LET US AND OUR FRIENDS EXTEND HIM

OUR FRIENDLY HANDS.

ANOTHER CIRCUS WITH ITS FAMILIAR ALL SOUND AND FURY?

TAIKO Tee Keat look bullishly stern when he asked PKFZ taiko Hwa Beng to make everything public. Sheepishly stern HB announced that the PAC and MACC (some deformed animal?) would follow up on this.

In pre-President Truman's days, it was called passing the buck, until the sign on his desk said "the buck stops here". In the mid 70s, it was called "delegation" until the mid 90s
and resulting from the Quality Movement, the word EMPOWERMENT was the flavor heralding the new millennium. But management gurus have persistently warned that empowerment will not work unless your managers are HONEST and possess inherent INTEGRITY.......so how now taiko?

(Aside: but thank the Almighty, our two taikos have made sure that the Police Inspector General is not in this loop, as he is busy lobbying for extension of service to the nation. Patriotism 101?)

WHY UNCLE KIT NOT HAPPY HERE

(maybe water beds a la Peter Abdullah Ang. Remember?)

But knowing how the BN protect their own, I am pessimistic despite all this avowed openness. Bear in mind the plethora of STARS involved in this mega-epic. Meantime I will nurse my Macallan and muse over this murky question:

FROGS WENT A'COURTING THEY DID GO....

I am sure everyone has caught the TV show: Kids say the darndest things. Amir Muhammad writes a monthly piece Malaysian Politicians Say The Darndest Things in Off the EDGE magazine.I hope he will include this in the June issue:

EC chief: No more deaths please
(Malaysiakini)

Since 080308 seven by-elections have taken place, four of which were due to the deaths of the incumbents.Looks like by-elections have winded Abdul Aziz Yusof. However, he must realise that deaths cannot be predicted although a pattern has evolved - 2 from opposition and two from BN coalition. Yes, time and manner of death cannot be predicted unless "manipulated" like in Kugan and the Mongolian Aminah. But frogs jumping from one pond to another pond are prdictable. And it all started in Sabah. Even when it was suspected that Anwar was encouraging these frogging, he might have taken the cue from Khir Toyo. Ask MP of Shah Alam YB Khalid Samad and he could tell you how Khir met him after Selangor lost and told him to lets form a coalition of PAS and UMNO to govern Selangor. So actually it was not an invention of DSAI.

For all we know Khir Toyo could have engineered the Perak leap-frogging extravangza. The Almighty decides when you die, but Man decides to jump or not to jump. This latter Aziz Yusof must put a stop to. He can if he wants to, but here again, can he do what his conscience dictate? Not possible really, because he too belongs to the mechanised government agencies. (HERE)

WHAT IS A FEMALE PIT BULL CALLED?

THIS breed of terriers has always had a bad reputation. Some are bred for dog-fights. There is assumption that when a pit bull has anything between its jaws, the jaws just lock. Kaput. Take this example:

A variant of the "locking jaw" story is told by Tom Skeldon, Lucas County (Ohio), dog warden, who said that an impounded Pit Bull that had been used in fighting started "going wild," biting at the walls of the kennel.[39] He shot the dog with a tranquilizer, and then left it for five minutes to let it pass out. When he came back the dog had indeed passed out, but not before it had leaped up and clamped its jaws on a cable used to open the door of the kennel. "Everything else was relaxed, the dog was out cold, but its jaws wouldn't let go of that cable, and he was hanging in midair," said Skeldon. "Not even a jaguar will do that."

Parti Keadilan Rakyat is currently embroiled in a dog-fight with an independent candidate. It is turning into a circus act of sorts. And this right in the midst of a by-election. Word has it that PKR is so sure of winning Penanti that they can afford to be distracted by side-shows. Tian Chua and those who latch on to him could do well to refocus on the big issue. What's the big issue? The Penanti's current complacent electorate. Those who put their ears to the ground are convinced that voter turn-out will be minimal because everything is honky-dory. PKR will win. Winning is one thing, but the winning margin tells a very miuch diffrent story. If the voters don't come out because of the expected no-contest by UMNO, PKR would be taught a lesson they can ill-afford. And do remember this: UMNO's machinery is still out there. They will exploit poor voter-turnout. They will expidite this by massive closure of roads to inconvenience those who wish to come out to vote. When all chicanery fails, road closures have been effective. Ask me because I have experienced it at all by-elections.

So PKR, don't let the jaws lock on you......go house to house....better to dance with the wolves you know than to pit your macho-we-will-win complacency with pit bulls, male or female.

Leave this pit-cow alone.....don't make her out to be a champion fighter....for all we know, she lost all her teeth and the jaws wont lock. Go after, the will-vote or no-point-voting rakyat. They are precious.

FIGURES: LIKE IT OR NOT WE GOT TO LIVE WITH THEM.

I got an F9 for Maths. Hello, this has nothing to do with F1. F9 during my time means you failed miserably in Maths and you are beyond redemption.

However I developed a penchant for figures, like from 36-25-36 (the preferred figure then) to A-cup size to C cup size (now according to a lady friend, got G-cup too…..she should know….she merchandises those G-force things at some Parade). Then came along half-cup (ding-a-ling I loved those) and full-cup. Everything to do with and encased in figures I liked…..until Peace Corp friend Connie Sperfslage went berserk and burned all her half-cups in solidarity with the Women Liberation Movement in the US. When you don’t have to use any effort, the atavistic instinct in man gets depleted. According to Connie that was their way to get at us Male Chauvinistic Pigs during that era. Ah but Connie was something else despite her avowed feminist pursuits. She was still the purty country juke-box queen when I visited her in Topeka, Kansas. She still got that stunning figure that could cure you if you are cross-eyed. OK let’s get back to figures.

When marriage took over our philandering days, only one type of figure mattered. What figure is needed to put bread on the table; how much more if two kids come along? It meant one beer less or only one night per week to storm the pubs. Those were daunting days with figures and it sapped your creative juices. But we prevailed, though without much help figure-wise because we were cronies to no top dogs and our friends were ordinary Malaysians figuring out the figures for monthly survival and future security.

Then Kamal, my best Bumi buddy came along with a different set of figures:

When one Malay is alone, he will smoke his daun rokok under some shady pokok

When one Chinaman is alone, he will pick his nose whilst playing Solitaire (Patience)

When one Indian is alone, he chews sireh.

When two Malays get together, they talk about girls.

When two Chinese get together, they talk about the next alibaba partnership.

When two Indians get together, they talk about dowry.

When three Malays congregate, they talk politics.

When three Chinese congregate, they play 3-kaki mahjong

When three Indians congregate, they want to form a Union.

To me these are entertaining and easy to figure out.

CURRENTLY figures (especially the figure 2) are beginning to be problematic

No we have two MBs in Perak,

Two presidents in PPP

Two 1 Malaysia….one BN, one Black

We were used to one frog jumping, now we have to contend with 2 sets of frogs - 2 males and one female(?)

Two sets of judiciary, one set OK, the other upper set, rotten to the core.

MACC’s two sets of enforcement: one for friendly people, the other for not-friendly-at-all people.

One bridge but 2 designs….awaiting certification in Book of World Oddities.

Two Speakers, one Sultan approved, the other UMNO approved and appointed.

Two types of pepper sprays – one workable and the other disguised as key-chain

Two types of bloggers – one UMNO bloggers, the other Barisan Rakyat Bloggers.

…………..ad infinitum

But I wouldn’t mind

2 Chief Justices

2 Police Inspector General

2 Attorney Generals

WHY?

But never, never, never 2 Prime Ministers!!!! One to govern and the other to give cues....God forbid.

Dang, this is getting me woozy….time for a few happy hour DOUBLE snorts.

Sri, three fingers and 2 ice. Terima Kasih.

BETTER TO BE PISSED OFF THAN PISSED ON

IBRAHIM AHMAD SAYS NO!

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has already started to lure Nizar into his trap by saying that Pakatan should appeal to the Federal Court. He was quoted by The Star saying: “I understand they will likely appeal to the Federal Court. It is their right to do that and we will ACCEPT the decision by the Federal Court which is the highest court.” (Emphasis of the word accept is mine). He repeated this particular statement since last Friday.
